Donald Trump's voice won't be the only one heard at this year's inauguration.
Tens of thousands of people are preparing to hit the streets of Washington D.C. during the 45th president's inaugural week. While some will march in support of the president or various causes, a growing number will be on hand to show their opposition to the newly elected president and his administration.
The National Park Service has provided 22 permits for First Amendment events that will take place over inauguration week on park service land that includes the National Mall and the White House. Each protest ranges in size from 50 people to 200,000, however, any protest less than 25 people does not require a permit.

D.C.'s Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has been preparing for the protests and the inauguration crowds since April. They're expecting 800,000 - 900,000 people to attend overall, which is significantly less than Obama's inauguration in 2009 that drew 1.8 million and forced the city into gridlock.

The largest protest is expected to come the day after Trump's inauguration. According to the permit they acquired for 200,000 demonstrators and the responses they've received via social media, the Women's March on Washington is predicted to draw hundreds of thousands of protesters in the nation's capital on Jan. 21, although there will be corresponding protests across the country.

I hope everyone turns OFF any channel that shows any ceremonial inaugural bs, and turns ON any channel that shows extensive protest coverage. it's one way to send a message to the corporate media.

(65,336 posts)wait for the corporate media to tell our story. They won't. ANY MSM reference to protests will smear them as violent riots.

(12,232 posts)who are protesting then.
Seems your main purpose in posting is to disparage those who will be protesting on the 21st.
I wonder why?

(2,297 posts)A group led by self-avowed anarchists says it intends to paralyze Washington, D.C., amid President-elect Donald Trumps inauguration next Friday, using security point blockades, protests and sit-ins in an attempt to grind the Republicans swearing-in to a halt.
If the headline (on Jan. 21) is, Donald Trump inaugurated amid complete chaos and a cluster (expletive), then we won, Legba Carrefour, an organizer for the group, DisruptJ20, said by phone yesterday. A lot of us are people who could be considered anarchists. None of us have respect for the office or the man.
The promised actions by the group come amid a raft of marches and events scheduled for the nations capitol and beyond protesting Trumps ascension to the White House. But DisruptJ20, which has spread its plan via a stylized website and social media, aims to go far beyond a boring walk in the street, Carrefour said.
Its holding training sessions for protesters, organizing a weeklong set of events and even providing legal guidance on its website in case of arrests. On the website, it declares, among other messages, that cops lie a lot.
Were planning a series of massive direct actions that will shut down the Inauguration ceremonies and any related celebrations the Inaugural parade, the Inaugural balls, you name it, the groups site reads. Were also planning to paralyze the city itself, using blockades and marches to stop traffic and even public transit.
Carrefour declined to say how many people the group expects to participate, and said that despite the groups calls for mass disruption, hes not concerned about violence on the part of protesters.
We can do a lot with 200 people, Carrefour said.
Peter Newsham, the acting chief of D.C.s Metropolitan Police, has said police are aware of calls to disrupt the inaugural events but said cops dont anticipate making mass arrests. A department spokesman yesterday declined to specify what security measures law enforcement are taking.
The fact that you have some folks that are indicating on social media that theyre coming down to shut down the inauguration and the events is something that we will be prepared for, Newsham said at a press conference last week.
A Trump spokeswoman deferred questions to the U.S. Secret Service, which did not respond to a request for comment.
State Rep. Geoff Diehl, Trumps Bay State co-chairman, brushed off the promised protests, saying talk of widespread disruption was also commonplace before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.
This sounds a lot like big talk, much like the RNC, said Diehl, who plans to attend Trumps swearing-in.

(5,330 posts)Expect Trump to come completely unhinged over Twitter and start lashing out like never before.
His first defining "presidential moments" are quite truly going to be him busting out a round-the-clock non-stop tweetstorm to put all others to shame.
If many (of even his own followers who voted for him) aren't concerned about his mental fitness for the job yet, all should be quite apparent by the end of the week.

(111,253 posts)because a lot of those young kids are going to get their baptism into civil disobedience via fractured skulls. Trump's chumps are no different from Nixon's hard hats in that regard. The overreaction of dumb men for Nixon didn't inspire the revulsion we hoped it would and neither will the overreaction of the Trump Chumps because it will all go unreported.
