At 73 Not Looking Forward To 4 Years Of Political Combat.

We will have four years of mean vicious political combat on many levels. Politics today is beyond horrible. It makes the politics of the 50's and 60's and 70's seem mild by what we will face. Our political discourse is in the sludge now. And Republicans are a mob to racist, bigoted and misogynist miscreants. We have no common ground whatsoever with ignorant stupid people who recognize no facts or reality.

So now it begins. Political combat with a RW that wants to run the country with an iron fist.

that I can't remember dreading as much what is going to begin in just 48 hours.

This going to be very ugly. I predict it will wind up being fought in the streets.

we don't have a career to worry about. I was thinking about the daughter of a friend, who is proficient in a European language and whether she might be better off looking for a career start in the EU rather than here when she graduates in a year and a half. I'd be very unhappy about spending my life in a country such as we're becoming if I was in my 20's now.

I'm not seeing any light at the end of this nightmare. I can't quite grasp the speed at which these people wish to destroy our country. I never realized how ignorant and mean a vast section of the population actually is; so eager to end the country as we know it. I really have no desire to live in their world.

I hate this so much...got to be a role model for the grandchildren. Just enough disgust to get the point across,
not enough scare them.

Tikki, that is exactly right. I have a 24 year old daughter. I don't want to scare her, either. Truth is, I think they already know...

I was looking forward to retiring sorta from the local things of calls and keeping up with people.. but it is what it is.. and here we go again.. shoulder together.. we will get through this..

I know it's a meme that's everywhere, but I was shown this particular photo the other day and it totally resonated with me. I can believe I was rubbing elbows with this fine lady fifty years ago.

the worst thing I've ever experienced in my lifetime (politically speaking). Can't shake the feeling of impending doom, and I think we're in for a very large dose of Shock Doctrine almost immediately. I don't think we'll be able to recognize this country in about a week.

In no particular order:

Kent State
Church bombings
Dogs and fire hoses
Killing of civil rights workers
Assassinations of JFK RFK MLK MALCOM X
Chicago Dem convention 1968
Persecution of black militants and anti-war activists

Not to mention: war in Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos

ETC.

Somehow this situation seems a whole lot different in that we have a completely corrupted media.

may look bleak, I am grateful to have lived during a time of (relative) peace
and prosperity. I survived 3 tours of Vietnam, I can survive whatever that man-baby
does. I'll be damned if I'm going to give into the fear and anxiety that fill your posts.
