3. I caught some old Dick Cavett shows by accident recently.

My family were all Johnny Carson people, so we never watched Cavett. He was on too late and he seemed to talk about mostly boring stuff with boring people.

But now, as an adult, I see what I was missing. This man is incredibly smart, insightful, and witty. His interviews were probing while still being entertaining. He brought out serious conversations from his entertainer guests.

I can't imagine a Dick Cavett show being produced now. I don't think anyone gives a shit about what the latest pop icon or movie hero has to say on any subject. They don't really have anything to offer, and they wouldn't be able to tell you anything.
