Question: Protest signs at inaugural

Or inaugurinal as I've taken to calling it.

I'm part of a group going down on Friday (we'll be at the Women's March on Saturday as well). I know there are protests with permits and specific locations planned during the inaugural, but we were wondering if anyone knows if signs will be allowed into the ticketed areas. We have tickets for North Standing, courtesy of a congressman who is now not attending .

I've gone to inaugurals in the past to protest, but have not had tickets, so I wasn't sure how it works.

Anyone know, or have thoughts on it? I've spoken to the group about other ways to protest if signs are forbidden, though some may peel off and join formal protests in the area instead of going into the ticketed area.

Thanks in advance!

(Wow, over 10 years here, and this is the first discussion thread I've started. Sign o' the times, I guess!)

I don't know if signs are okay but there are rumors about trouble for protestors Friday and also on Saturday. Some even claim that O'Keefe guy is going to try to entrap some protestors and make it seem they've done illegal things. He's a snake.

I have been tracking the O'Keefe story, and have had enough experience at protests to be very careful. Safety first, always. We'll be assessing the crowd once we get there, and will try to position ourself accordingly.

Thanks for the warning though. We all need to watch out for each other.

Glad to hear you're keeping track of all that. I'd say "have a good time" but I know you're going with purpose and resolve and that isn't necessarily fun. We WILL come out the other side stronger together.

sticks holding your signs. You are allowed to hold the signs up in your hands. Or on your clothing.

We have made small signs we intend to hold up with our hands. We are hearing from some sources that they are not allowing signage at all.

A twelve inch high sign could conceal someone removing a gun from their coat and readying it to fire. A three inch high sign wouldn't do that.

Protesters should be on the lookout for them, and alert the march volunteers if they see someone or something getting out of hand. The yam and his fellow travelers will be all over any incidence of disorder like a cheap suit. They are dying for riots to break out. And, if they don't break out, they'll try to incite them. Count on it.
