5. Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton are the First Ladies I most admire

While I respected and felt sorry for Jackie Kennedy, I disliked her public persona that perpetuated the idea that women should be stylish and retiring rather than strong and independent. I like Rosalynn Carter but she was another First Lady that maintained the traditional role for women.

On the other hand, both Hillary Rodham Clinton and Michelle Obama are beautiful, brilliant women that worked hard to achieve academic and professional excellence. Either woman would have made it to high positions on their own. They chose to set aside their own careers to support their husbands - but it could have gone the other way for either woman and the wonderful men they married could have taken the supporting role and helped their wives to their highest goals. Both Michelle and Hillary selected causes to fight for and they have done so even as their husbands worked on their own goals.

They are still beautiful and stylish but that is not the primary focus of their lives - as it is for the next First Lady, aka Third Wife.
