Such an American tragedy. Something so terrible and so wrong has happened.
I am sure many of us are grieving tonight, tomorrow, next day... (and past tense).
Tragic.
I take comfort knowing 100's of 1000's of 1,000,000's of Americans are going through this too.

(19,558 posts)A repeat troll here on DU for more than a decade. Actually, when I think about it, more like 1.5 decades now.
It wasn't a reflection on your post by any means. It was just a misguided, disturbed individual who takes pleasure in hurting others.
MIRT dealt with them, again. It's no big deal.

(11,726 posts)A couple of questions and a comment:
1. Why the need to ridicule at all?
2. Why the choice of "hystrionic" as the adjective given its loaded history?
now the comment: The way you feel is the way you feel, the way the OP feels is the way they feel and are trying to cope with the situation. Since you appear to be new here perhaps you should adapt a more introspective posture, or you may end up having a short stay.

I called Sen. Al Franken's office today to thank him for his work and fighting for us. I also mentioned he has posts here on DU with positive supportive comments.

Hopeful because it feels like the worm is already turning. Before the suspicions about Russia were confirmed, a case could have been made with some justification that this is what happens in a democracy with an electoral college and a Fox News channel, and we should just get over it.
Sure, we all felt, sincerely, as though we'd been robbed by the Supreme Court and Katherine Harris in 2000. We really did feel genuinely robbed. It was so, so wrong that the popular vote winner was not going to be our President. But... that's how it works. So we sucked it up. There weren't world-wide protests. Bush's popularity didn't tank before he even took office. We were prepared to observe a peaceful and respectful transition of power.
... That's not happening this time. It really feels as though the Russia thing has 1) given the media an excuse to un-normalize him and 2) pissed a lot of American citizens off.
So I feel completely dismayed that this inauguration is actually, somehow, happening... but I feel hopeful that people aren't just going to suck it up this time. It'll be a bumpy and very painful X years, but I think the bloom is off the rose before it's even been planted. It's going to be a bumpy and painful X years for him too.

(17,276 posts)whenever that baboon starts talking, as he did tonight, about how "we" want our country to be great again, blah blah blah, that 2/3 of us, according to his dismal approval ratings, do NOT want him to try to make anything great again!
That "we" he is talking about is less than 25% of the eligible voters in this country. Half didn't vote and more than half of the rest of us didn't want HIM.
Edited to add: Just found this on Twitter from Paul Begala: "Trump got 46% in Nov. His approval now 32%. He's lost support of nearly 1 in 3 Trump voters. Disastrous."
So if you translate that into a percent of all eligible voters, it is what, about 15 % of us?
Equinox Moon
(6,344 posts)If America had voted him in, there would be more support and participation by the public.

(41,818 posts)She is a 60 year old Filipina woman, and We did the town last Friday, going to a Pinoy restaurant where I got to have Chicken Adobo, Sizzling shrimp gambas, and Lumpia. Saturday is my Birthday but Since she is only available on Friday we may go out again to another restaurant.

Sizzling Shrimp gambas.

I am thinking Chinese, cause its fairly cheap, and you can order Rice, and get two inexpensive dishes which you can share, along with a hot pot of Oolong tea. I have really learned a lot from her about the Philippines and I have taught her about my Culture as well.
The World may fall apart, soon but I am going to at least enjoy my Fridays with someone who seems very nice. I do help out with gas, since I don't have a car, and tend to use public Transportation in the City. Since she does have a car, we have the freedom of being able to go places like the Mall and walking around is great fun, since she enjoys the exercise as well.
Last week we did get to go to the Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco. Its a very nice mall and a place I used to hardly go, due to the fact that while Taxi cabs will take you out there, the never seem to want to pick you up from there to go back into the City. With her car, we can go any Friday.
Since I work at home, I rarely get to go out as much as I would like, so this benefits both of us. Since Friday will be the Inauguration, I am sure TV sets will be turned on nearly every where, but I am quite sure there will be none, at the Chinese Restaurant where we will be going out in the Avenues. (If we can find a place to park, maybe next time we can actually visit Chinatown, Zhonggou Cheng and find a place to eat there. I know a few that tourists don't know about unless they stumble upon them, or are taken by a friend who actually lives there.) One needs to have a good meal if one is going to visit all the cool little shops there in Chinatown!
I do expect to come home around 3pm and check in with DU to see what happened during the day...and all the little disasters that can happen when we have such a Rouge person being sworn in as President of The United States. I expect it to fully be a horror story for the next four years, but at least once a week, I will be able to grab my friend, and escape all the nonsense by visiting all the rare places this City has to offer. I always wanted to explore the Exploratorium which has so many Science exhibits it takes a full day to see all of them.
Who knows, maybe we can make a trip up to see the Redwood forest again. Its been years since I have gone up to Muir Woods and walked among those mighty trees. I look forward to doing that an other things and it will be great to take my mind off Politics if just for an hour or so.. Its funny, she told me she dreaded the Trump Administration as well, and told me everything that will happen will probably stress us all out eventually.
The good news is within six months stores will start to open, that will sell Pot legally. I look forward to scoring my first bag, and sitting down and sharing a joint with her. Must shop for lots of goodies, as I am sure we will both have the Munchies bad!!

(10,893 posts)will suck, but the thing that helps comfort me is watching as Toupee Fiasco's supporters gradually become disillusioned and don't get everything they expect within the first month. Things will be not-so-good (to put it mildly) for all of us--even him. The news media has to focus on him like a laser since he's president, and all he can do is cry "fake news" when they report on his ineptitude.

(4,541 posts)can't sleep... tears streaming with the rain falling outside my window...
I agree with organizing, and that will come--I will march on Saturday, and I will be fierce on Saturday--but tonight is not for that. This is the time to give my pain and sadness time to be felt, acknowledged, and gently put away. I cannot just shove the pain and sadness into a box and lock it without first tasting what it means to me. That, for me, is an important part of the process.
So for now...
"It's almost 3 AM here on the west coast, and I am still up...can't sleep... tears streaming with the rain falling outside my window..."
is what's REAL.
