Regardless of everything, I'm sure there is some relief there. Well deserved. Now lets go on the attack!

(146,284 posts)Every four years, we have an opportunity to choose who will be our chief executive. Sometimes we choose wisely. Sometimes we choose poorly. This is one of those times when we chose very poorly, as we did with Nixon, GWB and others.
The answer is to work to reverse the direction in the next election. That is the system in which we live. I suggest we all begin looking at what we can do in 2018 to limit Trump's power as soon as possible. That's what I"ll be doing.
I didn't expect to find myself this profoundly sad. Haven't felt this sad since JFK and RFK were assassinated.

Have a great vacation.

(16,245 posts)I mean, Presidents come and go and, for most of my life, I have not been particularly sad or glad.
But this feels so much worse than when Bush was selected.

I have faith in all of us to weather this...to resist this...until such time as we can do something more about it...which won't be long, folks...not so long at all...

(24,470 posts)I've seen it fly a few times from my office window - on the flight path between Burbank Airport and LAX. I always waved!
We had a half-African, intellectual, intelligent, caring, funny, and very cool president and equally cool First Lady for 8 years.
It drove the Republicans crazy, but yes, we did.

(9,314 posts)I read he and his family were leaving immediately for a vacation, and that they certainly deserve. We do have the comfort of knowing he has established his Foundation and we can keep up with that, but more importantly, he left us with the words that if he saw red lines being stepped over that signaled our true priorities being compromised, he would be speaking out. And I believe he will.

(6,241 posts)A few years ago, I heard that President Obama was flying into Austin. I live right between the 2 flight paths into Austin, so I stood out in my front lawn, hoping to see something. Sure enough, I saw Air Force One gliding in. It was beautiful seeing it. Looked almost close enough to touch it.
I am going to miss actually feeling pride about my president. It was a great 8 year feeling.

(899 posts)I tried to not EVEN think about it for one day ~ did my yoga and meditation, played with my cats, worked in my garden (in January ~ it's normally frozen this time of year). I'm having to adjust to the new 'normal' a day at a time or else, I would be paralyzed with fear. My only hope is that in my lifetime, I'm 72, we'll see the 'good' Americans step up to the plate and see this con man and his cabal for what they are.

Onlookers waited under the cover of umbrellas and raincoats near the airport to watch the former president arrive in Palm Springs.
Roughly two dozen people hid under the eaves of the Palm Springs Air Museum adjacent to the airport for nearly two hours, waiting to glimpse the former president and first lady. A staff member at the museum said they had received more phone calls about the Obamas arrival on Friday than any other previous visit while they were in the White House.
One of those onlookers, Susan Walker from Phoenix, said she was excited to see the Obamas, whom she called fabulous people, after a tough day for many Americans.
