They have never been able to govern in my lifetime. The economy always does worse under Republicans and poor working people suffer the most. They don't like government and they are not very good at governing.
The worst that could happen is to have Republicans in control of all branches of government, as they are right now. It doesn't matter how large their majority happens to be. They follow ideology over everything else. That is why they still support supply-side economics. It has been proven over and over again not to work. Yet, they cling to it as if it were something sacred.
Another case in point, look how many vacancies are left to be filled in the new Trump Administration? Why didn't the Republican leadership help him fill these positions? Because that is not what they do. They are good at tearing down and opposing government and government programs. They do not know how to build up or create programs that are needed to help people. They are what they are - anti-government.
That is also why they will not be able to fix Obamacare. Their ideas are antithetical to good government. They are doomed to fail.
Unless Democrats are permitted to help, in a bi-partisan way, our country will soon be on a downward spiral. That is what Republicans stand for, contrary to all their loose talk and Party propaganda.

(789 posts)Republicans are now in a position to unilaterally change the course of our country forever.
And given the (shall I call it) pathological obsession with removing any measure of help and support for anyone who does not meet their standards of wealth, class and standing in our society, those left behind sink deeper into despair, debt and depression.
I don't know how many more severe economic down-turns our economy can withstand. My folks lived through the great depression of the 30's.... a genuine darkness came over them every time they talked about it. President Obama adverted the financial melt down of 2008-2009 and I don't think we realize how near our catastrophe really was. Can we as a nation weather another one so soon? I pray we don't have to find out.... but it's not looking good.
What I sense is that for some twisted reasons that only they understand (if they even do themselves) is that the Republican "Beast" will not be content until our United States of America is reduced to some kind of dystopian post-apocalyptic wasteland like the "Mad Max" movie. God help me, this mind set makes no sense whatsoever, but yet all the evidence points that way.
