I don't get the gratuitous lying.

Trump lies about things that don't matter, that can easily be checked, and that point to deep insecurities. He lies while everyone in the moment knows he's lying.

Just this evening, at the end of the third and last ball, he told two ridiculous lies.

1. "There are so many balls around town, who knows how many more we will be going to."

WTF! There weren't anymore and everyone knew it.

2. "We had such a huge crowd, even the media admitted we had a massive crowd. It went all the way back."

Er, no. It wasn't massive, it was anemic. And the media was talking about the puny crowd and empty stands all day.

What was the purpose of these lies?

I was watching Melania's face while he was talking. She stopped smiling and looked at the floor. She seemed embarrassed. I know a lot of people here are very anti-Melania, but there is a part of me that feels sorry for her. It must be hard being married to a pathological liar.

The constant lying. This is the thing that is going to wear the country down.

mainly because she HAD to know what a vicious liar he was long before she married the oaf. Maybe she thought all that money would make up for what she has to deal with every.single.day. But somehow, I think it probably gets old after a while and I suspect she and his kids are just waiting for the day he keels over, finally giving them respite from his raging narcissism.
