...advocating for things Trump is likely to ignore or oppose.
It promises to be the largest of its kind, so everyone participating will be a witness to an important historical event.
It makes no difference who is organizing the march. It's not as if every participant is a Hillary supporter. Those who are wearing themselves out highlighting the political bent of the organizers are conveniently forgetting that most of our anti-war marches were sponsored or organized by groups who didn't enjoy unanimity of support for their individual causes from participants.
We will show up and march because this will be seen by the vast majority of observers as an affront to Trump. Pure and simple. Very few are going to be obsessing on 'literature' or whatever organizers say they want out of the march. We're there for solidarity, much like we arrive at our Democratic party, so, enough with harping on divisions.
We should put wedge politics aside and focus on what unites us today. That's all that really matters, that we show up and rally together. All of the primary politics is water under the bridge. Today we stand united against the Trump presidency.
I'm very proud and excited to be a part of it all. Heading out now, and look forward to sharing our experiences here when I get back.

More like whatever the opposite of Messiah would be.

(11,093 posts)I resisted offering a reply to some of the argument posts here last night, so much negative energy over this march today and whose names should be in lights.
Although I've participated in plenty of pro-woman events over the decades, today I'm marching for my country. Against Donald Trump and everything he stands for, and for my country, for men, women, children.
I was a Bernie supporter, voted for Hillary, but I'm way beyond that now. To me, this march isn't about Hillary or Bernie, it' about the future of my country.

(2,647 posts)They are in control, which is all they know, and they couldn't care less what the American people want.
This march means zip to them. They are all probably laughing at what the Americans want. They don't care. They have the power now and that's what they wanted all along. And now with twitler in the W.H., they feel untouchable.
But one still has to admire, and I do, all who participate in the march today. They show determination and fortitude and the moral right which is something the republicans will never exhibit.

(16,245 posts)I saw a lot of seemingly young faces and it occurred to me to wonder how many stayed home or voted third party in states where that mattered. How many actually worked to drive turnout up. We might not have had Trump at all, if they had.
Marches are all well and good, but if people don't actually vote in 2020, we might end up here again.

(15,536 posts)In my opinion, it's an anti-Melania march too. She represents what trump voters think women should all be like - silent with no opinion and valued only for her looks.

(55 posts)City and organizers expected 20,000 max. No one is prepared downtown Chicago. There are too many women. The parade that was planned, is canceled. There is no room for a parade. Crowd is overflowing.
Will there be a media blackout like the demonstrations held throughout the world just before the Iraq war? I hope not.
Amazing demonstration here in Chicago. And to think that one of the first acts of anger of the trumph administration is the elimination the Office of Women's Health which includes 25 different programs. https://www.womenshealth.gov/about-us/
