With a fish-eye lens. Can't really see the long part of the mall, but you can see some of the white fooring. So it's a deceptive picture. Could be authentic but doesn't show the long part of the mall clearly. I do see the white areas behind the people gathered in the front of each section. They used it talking about the crowd size. It is obvious from the photo that there are about 250,000-300,000 in attendance. CBS also showed the reverse angle were you see the white tarps better. From the front you don't notice that. Why fight over this? Everyone knows his crowd was small compared to Obama and he is a liar. But to dismiss the photo as fake is not serving us well.

I refer to the area between the Capitol and the reflecting pool.

But the huge crowd at PBO's 2009 inauguration was standing between the pool and the Washington Monument. (See the Geo-Eye satellite image below.) The distance from the pool to the Monument is long, 1.1 miles; the crowd size there can't be inferred from the angle in the photo above. However, various aerial photos from 2009 vs 2017 show that far fewer attendees were in that part of the Mall in 2017. So even if the photo above is a frame from yesterday's video coverage, it still doesn't change the attendance figures.
