Correct facts, not silly typos.

Its kind of like sending your press secretary out to argue crowd size.

As I said upthread, I do have a little bit of OCD, but that's probably what makes me a good editor. Just saying.

as it was. Can't figure out how to change it after exploring all existing solutions. There's some solutions on the internet but they are too complex for me. Thank god Windows 10 is the last up up grade. I'll just put up with the phone. I'm 70 years old and am not going to spend a large portion of my remaining years working on a gadget.

My grammar and spelling sucks late at night or if the medication is doing a job on me. I understand your passion, its good to have something you really enjoy.

But I ignore editing SNAFUs online for several reasons:

1. I assume that, like me, many people post on the run, and often without sufficient sleep.

2. Most people have hyperactive autocorrect on their devices, and they might not even realize that autocorrect has made a mess of their posts, because once they have posted something they are interested in the responses, not in re-reading their own posts. (Of course, re-reading and revising are the essence of good writing, but drive-by posts on a message board are not normally attempts at good writing.)

3. Many people post on a tiny screen--i.e., a cell phone or a 7" tablet (my typical posting device). If you have old eyes (I do), then proofreading on a small device is a strain--and not always all that effective.

4. Many typos that are not caused by autocorrect are caused by trying to type on a tiny keyboard with large or clumsy--or even arthritic--fingers.

5. And this is a major reason: Editing other people's writing is part of what I do for a living. I don't usually bother to do it when I am not being paid for my efforts, and especially not if I haven't been asked to do so.

The only time I might mention a typo is when it significantly changes the poster's meaning, or if I am pretty sure the poster was blindsided by autocorrect and would want to know about it. Even then I always refer to the error as a typo or a probable autocorrect mistake, not as ignorance or sloppiness on the part of the writer. (BTW, typing "that" for "than" is one of my own most frequent typos.)

I actually did NOT post something negative about a specific post's grammar, but was responding to another post that did. Just look at this entire thread to confirm. Anyway, I usually ignore grammatical errors, although I am painfully aware of them.

The only time I ever call out an online typo is when it changes the poster's intent in a humorous way.

Most people just don't care about minor typos on an internet message board where most people are casually commenting on their phones while multitasking and so on.

I mean if it's a serious discussion where facts and data are being presented and what not, sure, every effort should be made to use proper spelling and grammar.

But on a thread like this, I mean give me a break. How insufferably pretentious can one be?

Just my 2 cents.
