"The White House has shut down its public comment line and switchboard, instead telling callers, with an automated message, that they should contact the new administration via Facebook Messenger instead. Theres only one problem: Neither the White House nor President Donald Trump seem to currently maintain an active Facebook Messenger account.
The White House had long kept a public comment line, which in recent years had been staffed by volunteers of the Obama administration. In addition, it also offered a number to reach the White House switchboard, where paid staffers would pick up the phone and take messages for the administration.
On Monday, Twitter users were first to report that both had been disabled. Callers are instead asked to use a form on the White House website, or contact the administration via Facebook Messenger.
The message doesnt clarify whether callers should use the official White House Facebook page or President Trumps Facebook page to do so but then again, that distinction doesnt really matter: Neither of the two pages currently offers any messaging capabilities. Trying to find the White House or the President directly from within Facebooks Messenger app also proved unsuccessful."

Hey everybody, don't you feel represented? Of course the account doesn't actually exist, but even if it did, what if I don't Facebook or have internet? My mother-in-law got rid of hers because she doesn't use it. Hell, getting her to carry a cell phone was task enough.

(27,800 posts)But I would be afraid to send my comments to this White House via Messenger without some assurances of what is being done with my personal information. I certainly don't put it above Trump to have an enemies list.

(345 posts)but you are absolutely correct. I remember several twitter messages yesterday, where people claimed to be asking for marchers to tweet their information to get a good count. And later saw the march organizers saying they were not asking for that info.
