I just do not see how we avoid huge political turmoil ahead. THERE IS NO COMMON GROUND BETWEEN TRUMP AND HIS SUPPORTERS and the rest of us who want a sane society with social and economic justice. Everything Trump is doing is meant to blow up the entire country. And the GOP will help him.
Only half of the country supports the protests. Another element is against them and want them STOPPED at all costs based on the rumbling in the social media by right wingers. Hate radio is incensed and calling these protests anti American and seditious. And I feel like tensions are rising.
Trump is so unstable and paranoid who could do anything including trying to disperse the protesters. I certainly would like to see things optimistically but it is hard. At CU college Republicans brought in a white supremacist to speak tonight and are accusing protesters and democrats of being hypocrites. College republicans are devoted vicious racists virtually all lily white. And they taunt professors they believe are too communistic even though that is a lie.
As far as I am concerned the GOP is pushing for a fight so they can suppress and oppress ALL opposition to their agenda.

subhuman. We are in for the fight of our lives to regain our country.

(5,056 posts)We need guidance and leadership both locally and on a national level. The times often make the leader.
We will see new leaders emerge. I think the Obamas will play a role.

(5,056 posts)But it really got nasty in the Clinton years as we all remember. Previously, they attempted to be
subtle with safety net BS and all. After Clinton got elected, they bared their teeth and it's been downhill ever since.

Even on the media they interrupt and shut down discussion. In earlier days you end up with a smack in the mouth and on the floor. On Chris Hayes there was some blonde GOP bimbo who interrupted both Sam Seder and Chris Hayes the entire segment.
If it were me I would get vicious and aggressive and sent her crying off the set she was so mean.

(26,044 posts)We've had a "political civil war" at least since the 1960s, and probably since Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. It just hasn't reached the level of a shooting war because both sides professed an agreement on the ground rules of the political process, probably because all had spent many years in the political system. But it's clear that the Insane Clown Posse
I mean Trump administration doesn't see any need to adhere to such "sucker's terms" when they're in a position to simply achieve their goals by fiat.
To be clear, I don't think we're on the verge of WW3, but more like the second American Civil War.

(274 posts)Civil War fought along class and equal rights lines looming on the horizon. For starters, a lot of hard working Alt. Right rednecks have bought into Trump, but are expecting jobs, and a better way of life that neither Trump or the Republican party can deliver, and I am not sure they care to deliver. Not a group of people you want pissed off...they have guns and pickups...a lot of both of them. Then you have 79 Million Baby Boomers who just want promises made to us kept so that we can live out our old age without having to eat cat food pitched against Millennials who want what they want, and they want it right now. We haven't even gotten to POC, the LGBT community, immigrants, Muslims and women.
Each of these groups have differing needs, wants and desires with very little give, and fact is, some needs/wants are going to have to be tossed to meet the needs of another group. Recipe for disaster, and I believe the right flash point will give us a civil war that will see much blood shed on the shores of America.
