But CNN did something remarkable. They opted not to run the press conference live, because it wasn't newsand a live broadcast would only give the Trump Administration license to spew lies without rebuttal.
The rest of the media should follow suit. If Donald Trump and his aides are going to use press events to spread false information, they should not be broadcast livebut instead be given time for the media to verify if what they said is true.
During these dangerous times we need real factsnot easily debunkable falsehoods meant to fuel Twitter trolls hateful delusions.

(128,894 posts)The initial effect will be that they will go into a foaming-at-the-mouth fury, that will really show their true colors, and maybe finally scare some of their fair weather/protest voters.
Otherwise, the media is completely complicit in continuing to allow them to use their platforms to spread egregious and unending lies 24/7. They operate from the known technique that if you repeat a lie enough times, it becomes "the truth", and we are approaching the point where they are going to have their lies repeated "enough times".
The media seems to keep thinking that at some point, this administration will settle down, "come to its senses", and get back to the usual conservative-liberal "banter" that they are accustomed to. But it should be obvious to them by now that this is NEVER going to happen because this group is abnormal.

I think that's really the key to all of this. If all those who oppose the RW were to be very careful about about where we spend out money, a difference can be made. https://grabyourwallet.org/ is the bets source I know of to guide us.

(128,894 posts)eventually the "infotainment" viewers get bored with the "info" portion and tune it out completely in favor of "entertainment". And for those who prefer their news to be "factual news" - not having that means they will also eventually tune them out. At some point, the (cable) MSM are going to have to do some restructuring.
As a note, back in the '50s and into the early '60s, the "news" was 15 minutes on the networks and eventually stretched to 30 minutes. The 24/7 format is relatively "new" (since the '80s) and we are seeing the impact of trying to fill those hours with anything meaningful. In fact, this format only works during catastrophic events, where continuous coverage made some sort of sense. Otherwise it is a wasteland. This is why I still miss the old CNN Headline News (morphed into infotainment "HLN" . It did occasionally get repetitive, but then you didn't have to sit there on the channel all day either and you didn't get bombarded by endless bloviators.
