(2,505 posts)... they smell blood. And Trump's epic meltdown is clearly a massive, and attention-grabbing issue for a huge number of readers. However the main thing they smell is MONEY. And that alone will doom Trump. None of the media will ignore ratings and money... none.
Finally the media is paying attention to protests. But where were they in 2003?

(2,505 posts)... is ("unfortunately" a massive money-maker for the media.
Isn't it ironic that Trump's celebrity status, an asset that likey helped him win the election, is the very thing that will doom him.
Trump doesn't even seem to be treated like a President by the media. And the more the media, and the tabloids skewer him, the safer it will be for the GOP to get Pence in, without any serious backlash (except for the KKK, and the other nut-jobs).

(20,998 posts)...please, help yourself to anything I post. Anything we can do to belittle, de-legitimize and criticize Il Cheetolini is a proud and worthy effort.

(81,125 posts)The more we can turn him into a joke, and the bigger the joke, the better. Does he think HE has a monopoly on destroying trust in institutions like government? Like the press? Like the political system? How 'bout HE take it in the shorts on that? No wonder he hates SNL! Now that Jon Stewart and David Letterman aren't around anymore and Jimmy Fallon is there to muss up his hair, we at least have a few others to hang our hopes on, like Alec Baldwin & Co., and Bill Maher.
ANYTHING we can do to assist in that regard: belittle, make a laughingstock of, sneer at, accentuate the negative, fault-find, keep repeating the word "LIE", criticize, and absolutely de-legitimize him - diminishes him in public (and he KNOWS it) and makes him feel small. Scuffs up his thinner-than-thin skin, picks at his scabs, makes him miserable, makes him lose sleep, makes him lash out. If we're lucky we can provoke enough of that so Congress will decide somebody needs to throw a butterfly net over his head and move him into a padded cell where he can't hurt anybody.
The idea is to intervene BEFORE he goes over the edge - of the world.

(6,226 posts)As bad as Trump is, are folks aware that Pence would be way worse? He is a radical religious RWNJ repub. Google him for some of his disgusting ideas. Could this be the devil you know v the devil you don't know?
Puzzler
(2,505 posts)Yes, Pence is appalling. But there is one supreme issue that "trumps" all arguments, and it's one I reluctantly make. It's simply this:
As long as Trump has access to the nuclear codes, his clear instability puts the entire planet at risk. I wish I were indulging in hyperbole, but I think not.
To be clear, I share your opinions about Pence. And under any other "normal" situation, I would unhesitatingly agree. But we have to acknowledge that this is a dire situation. And if we are going to defeat the GOP, we need a planet to defeat them on.
DownriverDem: I want to apologize if I come across as sermonizing. I certainly don't mean to dismiss your comment. The problem is that this is a terrible situation no matter what happens. And I hate to utter of think of a "President Pence". But unfortunately I compelled to. Despite my smugness, is really somebody who wants to cry in despair. However, I cannot... at least when there is so much that all of us worldwide need to do.

(8,171 posts)It would be extremely angering and demoralizing to those voters if Trump was impeached/replaced and the odds of re-election would dramatically decrease.
calimary
(81,125 posts)And at the same time, I agree that DownriverDem makes a MOST important and valid point, too. I loathe Mike Pence. He's already proved himself to be a horrorshow for the LGBTQ community, and also for women's rights. He'd be the Christian/Sharia Law "president." He's certainly one of the great 13th-Century minds of our time.
But he's also got a planet to help protect. We're already busy alienating our next-door neighbors (Mexico), China, and who knows who's next? And it's only Week One. I'd hate to be under Pence's rule, and have his brand of religion shoved down our throats. But donald trump is a clear and present danger, as the thin-skinned, narcissistic, reckless, feckless congenital and pathological LIAR that he is. He's in so far over his head that we're ALL in danger. Not just in this country, either, but worldwide. And this new attempt by his "administration" to silence dissent and muzzle facts and truths in what appears to be a growing number of agencies and departments is frightening as all-get-out.
This. Is. BAD. And it won't end well unless trump is IMPEACHED and removed from office. Let him go back to his golden tower and book a golden-showers-to-go service.

(5,399 posts)Pence is reprehensible, but not mentally unstable (at least not in the way that trump appears to be). He is unlikely to push for the stupid border wall, and at least understands how a government works. Also, he is unlikely to be in Putin's pocket.
Given the choice between these two ghastly options, pence comes out ahead, but not by much...

(9,524 posts)him having the codes. It's his impulsiveness and lack of and common sense / knowledge that could set off other nuclear powers with his "foreign policy" statements. He has already seriously lessened any likelihood of peace in the middle east.

(26,403 posts)You're supposed to buy them from China - got to make America great again!
