"God With Us" is what he has in mind. He looked back on his ancestral heritage and adopted the slogan to represent his beliefs and his feelings that he has a mandate, even from his deity, to rule.
When one reporter pointed out the similarity with a German language slogan used by Hitler, Trump said, "Well, that's in German, right? It's still a tremendous slogan. We speak English here in the United States."

(146,286 posts)Trump would never go that far in public. It wouldn't sit well with the Christian Right segment.
In private, well...that's another thing.

(8,694 posts)Is this a commentary or an actual statement from trump? I did a little digging and could not find anything.
Rulers and far to often even elected leaders of countries, invoke a god as being the mandate behind their rule. Either that god ordained their rule or made the ruler a god figure.
If this is real, there is no other interpretation of this new approach from trump. He is invoking a god, referencing his "ancestral heritage" as being connected to his rule. It is a whole new level of fascism.

"During the Second World War Wehrmacht soldiers wore this slogan on their belt buckles,[9] as opposed to members of the Waffen SS, who wore the motto Meine Ehre heißt Treue ('My honour is loyalty').[10] After the war the motto was also used by the Bundeswehr and German police"

(146,286 posts)that the British monarchy also has a similar slogan, tying the monarch with God, but in English. Nations often claim that God is on their side. It's sort of like high school football teams praying before the game. I guess if you win, God liked your team better.
