But book-burnings were "Fahrenheit 451", also a terrific dytopian novel.

I think the leading indicator of some of this insanity was early on in W's term, when FOX took to calling suicide bombers "homicide bombers". Orwell delved deeply into how controlling/limiting language controls thought, and I always thought that was a very early RW attempt at affecting opinion by changing the terminology.

The one thing Orwell never took into account, however, is that all the technology used to keep us under surveillance also works in the other direction; it's very hard for the bastards to do too much that goes unnoticed- digital fingerprints are on everything, and there are a lot of good people out there digging into the muck. I'm not terribly optimistic, but the fact that so much of what transpired in the Russian interference in the election has come out already gives me some degree of hope.

Speaking of right wing language manipulation...

ACA became Obama care, Anti-abortion became Pro-Life, must be more examples but those jump out at me.
