Today I e-mailed my Senators and Representative about the proposed "repeal and replacement" of the ACA, without the replacement. I used talking points from this:
https://www.savemycare.org/
putting it into my own words. Please add your activities today and yesterday here.
ON the issue of whether e-mails are ignored by congresspeople please see:

(33,915 posts)Asking them to vote AGAINST the confirmation of Rex Tillerson.
I included a short summary of the concerns expressed by Rachel Madow yesterday about ongoing coercive influence by Russia against Trump & interference with US diplomatic relations with Russia, citing the termination of all top state department employees who might otherwise have acted as a counterbalance to Tillerson's bias toward Russia, Trump's rumored plan to unilaterally terminate sanctions, and the arrest and treason charges against an FSB agent involved in hacking the DNC servers (suggesting that they arrested someone because part of all of the intel on Trump was true - and represents an ongoing concern about Trump's independence in this sphere).

(12,540 posts)issues to write about, it would be hard to get to them all. It's good that people are writing about many different things.
I wonder if the Senators and Reps. have had to call in their spouses and kids to handle the volume of mail and calls they must be getting.
Ms. Toad
(33,915 posts)so I prioritized that call over other things I might have a day or two to make my concerns known.

(50,773 posts)through to Chuck (again) on the phone, so I emailed him and sent out another postcard to him. Thanked him for saying no to Tillerson, but also begged him to say no to DeVos and Pruitt.
Once those appointments are resolved, the issues I'm going to talk to them about are that I want a full Democratic investigation of the Russian hack, I want not one cent of my money to go to build a wall, and I want my congress people to have nothing whatsoever to do with any aspect of dismantling Obamacare or devising its replacement.
And thank you marybourg for posting these threads, even if others aren't answering.

(15,214 posts)I made one phone call per day. Took about three minutes.
It makes me feel like I'm doing SOMETHING, at least.

(12,540 posts)I am not feeling depressed and gob-smacked any more, since I started calling/emailing every day. I now think about what I'm going to write, instead of how horrible the situation is that's causing me to write.

(994 posts)The anti abortion bill. I got my point across that he voted to have politicians like himself making medical decisions for women, something he has said he was against previously. Even if he is against abortion, his vote makes him a hypocrite.

He is not my senator, but is Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Since this is going on at the committee level and because I had a personal story to tell, I emailed him. I politely wrote that I lived out of state, but was contacting him because he was the committee chairman.
I emailed my GOP senators about this issue previously and I will do it again down the road.

(12,540 posts)Member/Committee Chair, and the committee name, and Dear Member/Chair. When they're on a committee, they're acting for all of us, I believe, not just their in-state constituents.

(24,547 posts)Here's a funny story:
Many years ago, way before the internet, I applied for Soc Sec Disability. I had my hearing before the judge, and after 9 months of constantly contacting my senators and rep, I never heard from the judge. Finally, out of desperation, I called the capitol in Washington D.C. and asked, "Who is the head of the Social Security Committee"? They gave me a name. That person helped me immensely and had connections. I heard from the judge in one week.

(2,176 posts)Fred Upton, House of Representatives Michigan. He sends form letters back which are useless. I don't care, he's bought and paid for by the Kock brothers and the Devos family.

(12,540 posts)I'm not thinking: "is this futile?" I'm thinking "What can I do to help".
And "Resist". That word carries the implication of unreasoning stubbornness. That's what we need.
