It begs the question:
Why are these people rallying?

(2,573 posts)adoption is the answer?? Then why do I NEVER see adopted children in these anti choice peoples homes? Have they run out and adopted children or have a house full of foster kids???? I pose this question to them whenever I can and I've yet to hear one of them give me a straight answer.

(27,800 posts)Make no mistake. I'm also fairly certain that many of them are unaware of this statistic, and further, the ones who are aware of it have absolutely no response when you bring it up.

Willful ignorance is the hardest form of ignorance to overcome. When backed by religious conviction, it is virtually impossible.

(34,135 posts)A few months back I was talking to a woman about choice. She had heard Trump talk about late term abortions and believed the horrific description he had used about babies being ripped limb from limb "on a whim." (Not sure if that is what Trump said, that is what the woman said.
I had a long discussion with her about why safe abortions need to be available. That even if woman - or their men - use birth control that it is not 100% effective. That even if birth control were 100% effective there are medical situation that make abortion advisable. That late term abortions are pretty much always a medical decision, not an elective choice and that removing that option KILLS women.
She didn't have much to add to the discussion other than her ignorance and repeating right wing talking points. Even though she is in the health care field - she is a home care taker - she had little knowledge of the medical reasons that an abortion might be needed.
The one point in her favor is that she will probably never vote in her life. She is a Jehovah's Witness and told me that they are not allowed to vote.
By the time we were finished talking she at least was thinking about the possibility that abortion might not be completely evil and that there are situations in which one might be needed. I didn't try to push elective abortion as a concept - that is beyond her - but that she would think more about the need to not totally ban abortions was a major step.

(3,077 posts)They want to control and repress women. They want us to sit down and shut up. They want 1950 back. We can't go backwards, we have to fight.

(31,261 posts)A woman's control over her reproductive options. If they eliminate legal abortion, they will come for pills that allow women to control whether they produce children. Don't let those people fool you, they VIEW women as second class citizens and feel women should be obedient to the men in their lives.
