will be the response to the round up and expulsion of undocumented people. Would there just be protests? Would politicians make speeches decrying the action, but do nothing else? Would mainstream media blather on, inconsequentially, fawning for cash and entertainment ratings? I tried to envision this coming reality, for me it isn't easy, I won't be targeted, I'm safe, aren't I?
I tried to think about how you start this process of capturing eleven million people and transferring them out of the country. What does that look like for those of us who are "safe"? Once it starts will we see I.C.E. agents sweeping through neighborhoods with high undocumented populations? How, really does this work? Households in the dark of night raided?
Will new laws be promulgated requiring us "safe" people to not only cooperate but be proactive in this roundup? Will we have to help chase undocumented families down the street and help corral them until ICE agents can get there? Will certain constitutional rights need to be suspended, like the right requiring a search warrant before entering your house? Maybe Martial Law in areas of intense concern.
What will the advertisements look like that the government will be putting out to support its postion, cause ya know that's coming too, polispeak so to speak, to make the roundup and expulsion more palatable to the masses. Probably look something like the abused pets on TV being rescued from desperate situations, sad faces that brighten when they see their ICE rescuers on the horizon coming to save them.
Of course our transportation system will not be sufficient to handle all the undocumented at the speed they will swept up. So we will need holding pens and staging areas for the overload. Freight cars and busses will be in huge demand. Logistics will be a challenge. Everything from basics like water and sanitation to diapers and baby formula. No doubt there will be government contracts to be had supplying the undocumenteds needs. Gonna be some big cash there.
Of course they won't be able to transport all their personal property, let alone their land and houses. So, I wonder who might take all that stuff. No doubt banks and loan agencies will step up and relieve local governments of the burden. Lotsa auctions I suspect, proceeds going to...well that yet needs to be determined. No doubt it will be appropriate and equitable to all concerned.
So I guess we have quite a sight in store for us in the near future, what with fleeing undocumented people, children and babies in the custody of ICE agents.
Sure is good to be an American these days, we will be so proud of our cleansed society. I'm pretty sure I'm safe though cause I'm white. I won't have to hide under my house when ICE sweeps through cause they aren't looking for me, yet.
