Which is better, adopt a house district of my choice or give to the DCCC?

Last edited Mon Jan 30, 2017, 10:21 PM - Edit history (1)

The DCCC has created a list of targeted house seats for 2018, which is a good thing (see list below), but there were lots of complaints about how the DCCC did its job during the primaries. Would it be better to donate directly to a few chosen districts?

If you want to really fund the congressional battle give to http://contribute.itstarts.today. They are committing to fund all 435 democratic races

... monthly donation as I like the idea of supporting Democrats even in hopelessly red districts. We need to be a presence everywhere and grow for the future!!!! I also posted on Facebook.... a rare act for me.

The DCCC does do some good work. They train congressional staff, have year round opposition research, and fund ads in targeted districts. However, in a non targeted district they're useless (I know this from experience).

If you don't want to donate directly to them, consider donating to the state Democratic Party of your choice (especially this early on when no candidate has emerged). If not the state party, then the county party. I've received a candidate recruitment (list serve) email from my local party stating exactly what seats are up this year asking for candidates to step forward.

ETA Swing Left is a new website that tells you where your nearest swing district is. If you want to 'adopt' a district, that would be a good starting point.

If you live in a secure district, look for a close race in, say, the next district over. They love money, but warm bodies to canvass neighborhoods is priceless.
