It really is an amazingly simple 3 letter word: Lie
It has been working amazingly well. They spout off the "news" they been spoon-fed by Fox or some other right wing alternative fact news site and I just say "Lie" ... and walk off. It really makes them defensive and angry. I don't try to logically reason with them anymore (which is a waste of time and emotion anyway). Amazing how defensive/angry they get trying to justify Trump's actions.
It's worked so well I tried it in a news site's comment section and it worked perfectly. They kept arguing with themselves.

(5,611 posts)when a close friend or relative doesn't also become a "believer." It exacerbates their anxieties about their beliefs, and they often react in angry, super defensive ways.

(5,231 posts)I see this a lot these days. They are doubling-down for their leader's honor.
It is fascinating in a terrible way.

(5,231 posts)This has been my own experience as well, especially the past few days. They truly believed everyone loved him as much as they did and the obvious proof that we do not is driving them crazy/crazier.

(81,193 posts)This is a pretty wild night. As I write this, the big popping news was trump firing Acting AG Sally Yates, but now he's evidently also fired the head of immigration enforcement, too!
This is unspooling in such a way as to confirm WHY you DON'T run a government like a business. And why it's UTTER FOLLY to put a businessman in at the top. A businessman is used to doing business a certain way. Especially a CEO-type who's used to swaggering around like some sultan and in his own private company CAN say "my way or the highway." I'm sure trump has fired people on a whim, MANY times before. But he was in private industry at the time. You can do that if you own the joint.
But trump doesn't OWN this. He is a public servant. That's what a President of the United States is: the highest-ranking public servant in America. The country doesn't run like a business. They're not the same thing! A business exists to do one thing: generate a profit. Period. That's NOT what a government is for. A government is for serving the public, collecting taxes, and redistributing that tax money to serve the public. Handle crises. Fund recovery, for example.
Perhaps we're now seeing how trump runs things when the whole country and the whole wide world, friend and foe alike, all aren't looking over his shoulder - which is what happens when you're President. Maybe we're now seeing, close-up, the kind of business guy he is in the private sector. And why he's been sued more than 3,500 times.

(27,813 posts)When Trumpettes insist that "3 to 5 million" votes were cast in the last election by "illegals", I tell them that it's true - and almost 100% of those "illegal" votes were for Trump.
When they ask for verification of that "fact", I ask for verification that 3 to 5 million votes were "illegal".

Trump, the GOP and billionaires are working hard to remove our democracy and Constitution in order to install a Fascist Dictator Plutocracy government. Why would you want that? What do you have against democracy? What do you have against the Constitution?
Educate yourself on what you are supporting:

(1,517 posts)Thanks, I'm going to try this one.
A couple that have worked for me.
Can you prove that? Where did you hear this? Why do you believe this? You do realize that this has been thoroughly debunked?
I, of course, don't ask these all at once. I've found that they often don't know where they heard it, don't know why they believe it, and certainly can't prove anything.
The problem I'm having is I want to punch their fucking faces in for doing this to my country because they got talked into believing that Obama was or did ruin the country and that anything would be better than Hillary Clinton... So, I have to minimize my conversations with them.

(1,002 posts)Дональда Трампа is a traitor and we shoud be fearless about calling him out for what he is. He will throw this country to the pack of hyenas formed by Exxon petroleum, assorted billionaire CEO's and Russia's Putin. He will do it deliberately and with no conscience and he will break anyone who stands in his way. We see him doing this already. We must all rise up together and fight him in every way we can.
My tag line is by Harvey Fierstein, btw. So far he hasn't objected to my use of it, and I'm sure he'd love for all of us to use it for a rallying cry.

I do believe the one Drumph supporter who told me "Now you know what I felt like when Obama won" is probably starting to cringe in a corner somewhere. I don't know, since he got dismissed from his job for racist, sexist commentary.
Let's face it. Their "Tea Party" protests couldn't hold a candle to the real grassroots movement against this fascist regime.
And our signs are correctly spelled.

Our signs are not only correctly spelled, they're witty as hell!
I saw one at the L.A. Women's March the weekend before last, that said "We're Not Ovary-acting!" that included a drawing of a woman's reproductive system.

(2,809 posts)Thanks for the "welcome", but I'm actually "nightscanner59" repackaged since the hacking. That handle got me "typecast" into working night shifts, so shedding that ten years ago after a nighttime year's contract expired. DU was the last place for me to switch from that, after the hacking was as good a time as any.
