Pelosi Statement on the Firing of Acting Attorney General Sally Yates

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after it was announced that Acting Attorney General Sally Yates was fired by President Trump:

“Tonight, the Acting Attorney General was fired for upholding the Constitution of the United States.  What the Trump Administration calls betrayal is an American with the courage to say that the law and the Constitution come first.

“President Trump’s executive order violates the Constitution, dishonors our values, and weakens the security of the United States.  National security experts are warning that the President’s ban will make it harder, not easier to defeat terror.

“Earlier tonight, House Republicans blocked Democrats’ emergency bill to rescind this dangerous and unconstitutional executive order.  Now, President Trump has fired the Acting Attorney General to get the answer he wants.  Republicans will have to decide whether they will be complicit in the President’s reckless, wrathful and unconstitutional agenda.”

Another miscalculation on his part, Trump has now made America's standing in the world questionable. Something we take great pride in. Now, only Trump's complete removal can remove that stain. It's the only way to regain trust.

He's gone "all-in" with this one, and miscalculated that his followers won't turn on him and throw him under the bus. They will.

If you plan to dredge up Bush/ Cheney no prosecutions for all this then you have not been paying attention. Fact is the election was hacked by Russia. Fact is Comey along with a few close friends aided committed and abetted treasonous acts to throw this election. Facts matter.

no prosecution of Bush/Cheney happened and it caused major disappointment. That was a completely unforced error that had a demoralizing effect on people ready for housecleaning after a hard fought election. In no way does that diminish the Russian hacking and the Comey stunt, but it doesn't erase the earlier blunder, that helped lose control of the Congress which left Democrats in a devolvingly weaker position ever since, either.

an admission that congress is really afraid to cross trump now. They believe they would be destroyed by one tweet from the predator in chief, so now it's roll-over time. Guys, we have to call them on this. They already ruined their own reputations by running scared. We need to inform them, our so-called reps and senators, trump can't hurt them, we can, we are watching them destroy themselves, and dragging us with them, we will get them out! Out of our states, our counties, our districts, and put in those who will do the job. Money can't save them this time.

21. Jeff Sessions had a question for Sally Yates
Tue Jan 31, 2017, 02:26 AM
Jan 2017

Jeff Sessions asked Sally Yates during her confirmation hearing if she would be willing to defy the President if he asked her to do something improper or unlawful.

Years later, Ms. Yates does exactly that (against Donald Trump) and promptly gets fired. Meanwhile, Mr. Sessions is waiting to take the job.

Will Jeff Sessions now speak out in support of Sally Yates and her decision to not defend Donald Trump's refugee ban?
