Democrats vow to fight Trump immigration order on several fronts
Washington (dpa) - Several top members of the opposition Democratic Party rallied Monday in Washington against US President Donald Trump's controversial executive order on immigration.
They vowed to stall confirmation votes on Trump cabinet nominees and to keep attention on the executive order, which has caused a global outcry.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told several hundred people attending the rally in front of the Supreme Court that the order was against everything America stands for.
Trump's temporary ban on migrants from seven Muslim-majority countries and refugees from any country is inhumane in a country that has been a beacon for oppressed people all over the world, he said.
"We will fight it with everything we've got," said Schumer, who was joined at the rally by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
