PTSD and President Trump

Two weeks into the Trump reign of error, I have noticed that many DUers are suffering from PTSD. Post Truth Distress Disorder.

Symptoms vary. PTSD may present as a compulsion to avoid all political reporting, but it can also manifest as compulsive watching and reading.

As someone who could have attended medical school and graduated with a degree, I recommend that DUers who show PTSD tendencies should immediately seek out humor sites as a partial antidote to Trump induced PTSD.

*****************************************************************
On a serious note, as a Union Representative for over 32 years, I had occasion to represent too many military veterans with actual PTSD. This post is in no way meant to mock those brave veterans so afflicted. It is meant to mock Trump, CONway, and other habitual liars who use lies to divide.

After watching the correspondents dinner when Trump was roasted, the pure hatred he exhibited when he was the subject of the type of mockery that he uses against others, it is obvious that he must be mocked and humiliated.

I went over to You Tube when DU was down and checked out BBC Movies: Comedy and found a gold mine.

Eventually I had to start watching disaster movies and those helped a bit more, since they were told from the POV of survivors. The best of the lot was "Murder on the High Seas" about the sinking of the Lusitania and the coverup afterward. It had some choice things to say about the nature of governments that also helped.

Right now is our darkest hour, the Trumpers still on their post stolen election high and not bothering to pay much attention to anything but how he's "hurting liberals, boo hoo." It won't be too much longer before they realize they're getting hurt, also.

My humor remedy is an attempt to ease some of the tension and fear that is obvious in many of the posts here.

and since videos are no longer limited to a few minutes, there's a hell of a lot of variety over there.

It's a good thing now that TCM sucks.

this whole mess is not helping at all, one of the EOs is affecting my livelihood and ability to pay my bills since I live paycheck to paycheck.

Sometimes music helps as does humor but I find I can only obsess over the news and DU posts most of my waking hours of late. I don't sleep much anymore either.

I never watch political news shows. It is simply too much to deal with. Like a noise than one cannot avoid.

of good exercise and do other things... I live in a chore oriented lifestyle, chores must be done and on time. I can't help staying up to date w/news, I'm a political scientist for goodness sake. I will have to find more activities, I guess.

I remember being similarly disheartened when Racist Ronnie Reagan was elected. A feeling of "how could so many people be so uninformed?" that took a while to lessen. And the very real damage that Reagan did is still evident in income stagnation, lower expectations, less retirement security.

So when Tea Partiers talk about all Reagan did for the country I generally give them my view.

carefully given where I live and what I've been getting hired to do the past several years. I remember all the way back to Eisenhower but I have not been so freaked about the oval office holder as much as I am now, and I was pretty stunned and horrified by the end of W's first year.

I am now too old to consider a whole lot of future before me and I don;t like the idea of seeing everything I worked for and strove to protect be destroyed while I'm am helpless to do much other than stand by and watch.

Anyway, I try not to be too down, it's a challenge I don't relish though.

We must be active and keep fighting.

Our social justice group just showed Thirteenth, by Ava deVernay. An excellent movie. Our church hall was packed and people stayed to talk about the movie for 2 hours. We are under no illusions that this showing and this discussion will change the world, but the discussion, and an audience composed of very diverse people, showed me that the country is hungry for this type of discussion and gathering.

If you are not a member of a social justice group I recommend looking for one or starting one.
