Women Will Read Coretta Scott King Letter Outside Mitch McConnell's House Tonight
by Rachel Sadon in News on Feb 8, 2017 3:50 pm

As the news keeps pouring out of the Donald Trump administration, Ruth Eisenberg deleted Twitter.

"There are so many outrages every day with this administration that one is in a constant state of outrage," says Eisenberg. "I want to be able to live my life, and choose my outrages. I don't want to be outraged constantly."

But when she came home from a meeting last night, turned on the TV, and saw what happened on the Senate floor, Eisenberg swelled with anger. "The combination of the sexism of silencing one of the few female senators, and the fact that she was reading Coretta Scott King's words, outraged me."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) invoked a rarely used rule to silence Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) as she read aloud from a letter that King wrote in opposition to Jeff Sessions' nomination for a federal judgeship.

"Senator Warren was giving a lengthy speech,” McConnell said. “She had appeared to violate the rule. She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted."

Tonight, Eisenberg and a small group of friends will take up the mantle and read King's speech on C Street NE, right outside McConnell's home.

I hope they had a great turnout.

We need to start bothering them everywhere they go. Where they live, where they eat, where they try to go on enjoying their lives as we suffer. They need to feel us and fear having to answer to us EVERYWHERE.

And, yet Senator Merkley was allowed to read Coretta's speech.. why is that?

Mahalo for this great news, Maru!

Senator Daines is reportedly more responsive to calls and letters from certain parts of our state than others, say for example, Missoula which is very blue. I am hearing that he has locked down his offices phones of late and you can't even get a human to answer. There may be some truth to that rumor because I have written and called at least 5 times since January 21st and I have not gotten one follow up email or letter from Daines. Senator Tester (D) on the other hand has emailed AND written a letter each time I've called him. Daines knows that most of us in Missoula didn't vote for him. We're apparently easy to ignore. Wrong!

I can't ell you how happy it makes me to know how many DUers are from MT! Sometimes I feel all alone - I know it isn't true - hell there were 10,000 of us at the women's march in Helena. I should know better, but still.

Give him hell MK!! I'm taking a cue from you and sending a hand written letter instead of a call.

6. silencing a US Senator
Wed Feb 8, 2017, 10:51 PM
Feb 2017

that is despicable, Senator Warren was on the floor for about 1 hr. She even read what her great predecessor Senator Ted Kennedy wrote about Jeff Sessions. The repig Caines who was the Chairman was being coached by a staffer regarding what to say. McConnell was called to come in the Senate from home when he silenced Senator Warren. I heard that on Randi Rhodes this afternoon. What a scum bucket he is.

Senator Ted Kennedy (The Lion) I am glad he is not around to see this crap.

In literally ANY OTHER administration they would have the sense to try and HIDE their white-supremacist leanings, instead they've gone mainstream, loud and proud.
