"A friend's US citizen mother - 85 years old had ICE come to her door and demand her papers. Her mother has been naturalized for over 30 years. This happened in Albuquerque this week."

(29,194 posts)This is getting out of hand... I lived in Southern Arizona and my commute to work passed through these checkpoints. I hated them then and I believe them to be unconstitutional (but the SCOTUS disagreed). But the were limited to being within 100 miles of the border.

(1,366 posts)is that it was decidedly a Native American place, then the Spanish from Mexico arrived in the 1500's, and then the Americans in the early 1800's. There are more people of Spanish (Hispanic) heritage here (whether from the original Spanish or the constant migration from Mexico and elsewhere) than from the American Anglo movement.
The fact that ICE is having any focus in NM is bound to have repercussions.
