Trump is right about the media being the enemy of the American people

In an ironic way, Trump is right about the media being the enemy of the American people. The main reason is that the media is the number 1 reason we have Trump, and he is absolutely the enemy of the American people.

Of course, the media is not a monolith and some news outlets are far better and more responsible than others, but Trump actually shares an amazing number of features with the worst of the corporate media:
1) sensationalism
2) superficiality
3) refusal to talk about climate change, a massively important issue
4) over-hyping of Islamic-based terrorism
5) pro-corporation, pro-capitalism
6) little regard for the environment
7) ratings-driven
8) cheer leader for US wars and US war crimes
9) glorification of US soldiers and the military

He really is a creature of the worst of our media.

1. There is a big difference in being remiss on their reporting and being an enemy of the people.

2. No Trump is not correct period.

A free press is in the constitution for a reason...this is the first thing fascist attack...so no...it doesn't matter what individual media outlets do...they exist for a very good reason...to stop fascist like Trump...First thing Putin did was to end freedom of the press.

4. I know, I was making a joke

also, there are a lot of similarities between Trump and the corporate media, if you read my list.

8. I read your list and get that

However, I believe that we take the good with the bad where the press is concerned. I have recently subscribed to New York Times, Wash Post...Cleveland and our local paper Vindicator here in Ohio...we need to support print journalism. I also order Mother Jones who saved us from Romney...We don't want any GOP types and particularly a fascist like Trump taking away the freedom of the press; it will not end well.

11. Oh, I totally agree... the cable TV news channels are the worst

But there's a ton of bad online news sites out there. All kinds of disinfo and garbage.

Print is good but my local paper completely ignores climate change.

Still, I am not in favor of censoring.

5. I think what the OP is arguing

is that the press isn't free--it is constrained by the owners' corporate interests and / or profit motives.

7. I understood that.

But you can't decide who is legitimate and who is not...always been that sort of thing...yellow journalism and all...we must have a free press...and tolerate the bad ones.

10. "I" can't decide? "I" am not.

My point is the press isn't free--owners are deciding what news is fit to print. If they decide Trump poses a greater danger than opportunity then great! we are allies...for now. But the press certainly can be an enemy of people, here as well as elsewhere.

14. well, I think the press is "free" but it is constrained in the way you mention

and as such is not necessarily our friend, particularly the larger outlets.

17. I agree.

In theory, and constitutionally, it is "free"--"Congress shall make no law...."--but the reality is not the same.

9. Number 3) on your list should include overpopulation.

Climate change isn't just about CO2, etc. It's also about a planet with 7+ billion people to support, which is straining our resources.

Overpopulation needs to be a subject of discussion and how to resolve it.

15. Yes, there are so many issues along those lines that are almost completely ignored

by the corporate media-- like the disappearance of species, the dying of the oceans, etc
