Isn't this how civil wars are started?
Feds tell the states what to do. States refuse. Feds send military in. States fight back.
Feds tell states to have police help ICE. Washington refuses.... I'm not saying refusal is a bad thing. I just wonder how far Don Small Crowds will take it.

2. Yes, that's a big worry
but telling an ignorant buffoon that the local cops already have full time jobs and he's going to have to rely on Federal agents isn't a states rights thing, it's a jurisdictional thing. If lawsuits start to fly and it goes to the most conservative USSC, they will likely hold up NY's right to refuse.

4. That's my take too
Last I looked, being here without authorization is not a criminal offense. The only agency we have empowered to take people who are here without authorization into custody is ICE.
I don't see how the Feds could possibly force any state, county, or city law enforcement agency to "arrest" people who have broken no criminal law. It's my understanding that keeping immigration separate from law enforcement is critical if we want functional law enforcement agencies. I also thought this was an idea subscribed to by people across the political spectrum. Cops, sheriffs, etc must be free to investigate crime without people here without authorization running scared. And they want people -- authorized or not -- to come forward to report crimes without fear they'll end up deported. I have a sneaking suspicion that DT doesn't actually understand that being undocumented does not violate criminal code. |

5. The damned fool doesn't understand much of anything
but since he's heard on the rich guy cocktail circuit from other rich guys, he thinks he knows it all. He has no clue about what "jurisdiction" is and why it might be separated between agencies. To him, a cop is a cop and an alien, as you pointed out, is always a criminal.
You can tell by their dark skin and lousy English, you know, they're just up to no good. |

3. Many districts, cities have put out notices to PDs & schools
to resist. Not let them in without a warrant. Don't follow orders. Chicago, LA, SF, Austin, Santa Fe, NYC, many more. Already, an underground Railroad is springing up.
I'm wondering if Sessions will somehow try to intervene. I can't grasp the concept that we are really headed for a military civil war. Without the military, we are so polarized, that I think we are already there. |

6. Actually, no
We've only had one civil war here, hardly enough to spot a pattern. Besides, the record shows it wasn't about state's rights.

8. And with that one the Feds didn't "send military in"...
The troops had long been there at a coastal defense fort. The insurrectionists found that intolerable and assaulted the place.

7. Just wait until SCROTUS sends in
the DEA to States that have legal recreational pot with orders to restore Federal law? I don't agree with this; but I fear it is coming.

9. I'd call it a rebellion not a civil war. If the majority of states
and cities refuse to cooperate, I doubt that even the fascists would bomb them.
