It was his health care plan.
He's had eight years to perfect it.
It was a piece of crap.
He owned it.
It was by far less popular than Obamacare or Trump
He couldn't get the votes from his own party.
Should Paul Ryan resign?
they should all resign lol.

(17,276 posts)he's my district and I will, as always, vote against him! Poor baby never wanted the job as speaker anyway!
He'd probably go on to run for governor or something, though.

(32,351 posts)I'm not sticking up for that POS Ryan, but they really twisted his arm when Boner stepped down.
He didn't want the Speakership, so I don't feel bad for him.
Maybe he's trying to get fired. (?)
Just sayin'

(54,052 posts)I think he only pretended to be dragged kicking and screaming into the Speaker's job. One thing is undoubtedly taking up about as much of his waking day as it did the mythical Frank Underwood: slime his way into the presidency. He's next in line if Trump and Pence both go. Trump has a lot of baggage, but you can be sure that Pence is at least as aware of that as Ryan, and will have started playing CYA as soon as it was clear that the election would be handed to them.
It should be a real battle of the slimeballs if Trump goes. Pence wanting to get his chance to set the national agenda, whereas this time last year, he was looking at fading into the woodwork. Ryan, on the other hand, got humiliated as Willard's VP, but got a close enough look to learn to want it--not the VP spot, but the top spot. Could be some serious mud wrestling in the near future...

(4,492 posts)Is there half a chance we could take him out at the ballot box?
I do not see how he goes forward after a lose like this. He could not bring his own party together on this bill. Does he even have the respect and confidence of his House Republican members. Maybe no one can control the House Republicans, I think it is time for someone else to attempt to take control. Did anything like this happen when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House?
