they also all think that all the Ft Carson troops should be out there digging firelines. 1, they arent trained fro wildland - even street FF need wildland training 2, it takes um, federal OK and money to deploy them (there has been 2 companies of engineers digging firebreaks for a few days now). You know, the kind of OK that only comes after the President has toured the area...which is why he came out friday. People here were bitching about how his visit was photo op only and only fucked up the fire fighting effort. Um, wrong. I hate the people in this town

Their own weather systems by the intense heat they have with all that fuel. We have had fires in the northwest that changed the upper air currents, killed firefighters on the ground under their shelters, caught the planes over head on fire, and could not be put out until the first snow came. These guys are the best and I really appreciate what they do.
