Once-Prominent Public Figures Who Have Totally DISAPPEARED

Most of the Bushies have had the good sense to go someplace away from prying eyes, and I'm glad of that. We hear occasionally from Dick and Condoleezza, but Donald Rumsfeld has gone into hiding and stayed there. Wasn't there a German guy who ran for Governor of California and won? Used to be a body builder, IIRC. And no, I don't miss him either.

Gone, too, are any number of press secretaries who used to annoy us with their evasive answers. I've got them on my list, they never would be missed, they never would be missed.

But I think that's more because of his marital troubles than anything. He is planning to resume his acting career. So we'll be seeing him again...

But only if we want to!

Others have popped up from time to time to burnish the GWB legacy.

But you're right, we don't see them much--until they get the call shine up their boss.

As for Arnie...I'm afraid that he'll be baaaack before long.

Judith Miller won notoriety for her reports from Iraq that turned out to be false. The New York Times let her go, and she surfaced someplace else for a time. I think she has dropped completely out of sight.

Seemed like he was on CNN every other night in the 90s being asked his opinion on anything related to business, jobs, the economy, etc. I would have thought he was the go-to-Know-Nothing they would have pulled out of mothballs in 2008, but I haven't heard a peep from him.

It took Gonzales forever to find a job after the Bush years. He finally washed ashore in some Bush-related capacity, as a faculty member at some second-tier law school.

Some others:

  • Alan Simpson - cranky ex-senator who tried to scuttle Social Security
  • Christine O'Donnell - ran for Senate with the slogan, "I am not a witch."
  • Herman Cain - ran for president vowing to run the White House like a pizza business
  • [/ul

was a lapdog without substance, so why hire him for "expertise" he doesn't have?

And most colleges and universities are mostly too liberal to hire someone with Gonzales' ideology. I wouldn't be surprised if a donor promised that law school more money than they would have to pay for his salary.

...and has been pimping it on right wing shows and conventions. Many of the boooosh era aparachniks vanished into "think tanks" and other corporate jobs hoping to get a call if Rmoney wins...or to stay in the rushpublican welfare system until they do return to power.

As far as Press Secretaries...Tony Snow passed away and we Dana Perino now graces faux noise. Truth is after handling a nutcracker job like that I wouldn't be surprised if any former press secretary stays far away from the fetid beltway stenographer pool.

The problem is when these people go silent and below the radar...it means they're conspiring on some future fleecing of the economy and using the military as a combination piggy bank and merchant of death. Let's hope Mittens gets his ass kicked in November so we get another 4 years where our lives aren't directly affected by these vermin.

He's trying to redeem himself now, but I still think he's more about Ken than anyone else.
