An unpleasant thought just occurred to me about Roberts.

I get the impression that he passed the ACA so that SCOTUS wouldn't look quite as partisan.

Could he have passed it also knowing that because of Citizens United the Republicans were likely to outspend Democrats by a huge margin and therefore win back all of Congress and the Presidency?

Once that was accomplished the ACA would be immediately be dismantled and destroyed.

Therefore he would accomplish the goal of making SCOTUS look less partisan and still eliminate ACA the way he wants. He could have his cake and eat it too as it were.

Hmmm.

1. Maybe he got a surge of corrupting power, and realizes he doesn't have to answer to any of these

bums.

He's got the job for LIFE. He can make plenty of extra money, if he really wants to live large, giving speeches. It's not like his work schedule is terribly hellish.

He just might feel like a little king. Who knows?

Roberts predictably voted with the majority to strike down Montana's prohibition against corporate financing of political campaigns within a couple of days of the ACA vote.

Especially since Romney hasn't led, on average, since October. Just way too risky if that was his sole intent.

They were so confident the ACA would be overturned that they didn't even have a prepared statement.

Lacking one is why they went insane.

As a matter of fact, their GOING insane probably lost them the election.

One even said this was as bad for the country as 9/11. If I were in the campaign for Obama I would have 9/11 families show up at that asshole's office in DC.

We all know Scalia is ready to hand the GOP the Oval Office, again. It helps that, instead of simple incompetence, we have Rick Scott working so hard to purge the rolls that the road is paved for an even greater mess, especially since the Tea Baggers down here will be in full froth after both the Tampa GOP convention and Ron Paul's privates Tea Party convention, same city, same time. He knows there will be another fight, and if ACA died, and Scalia tried to become kingmaker thanks to Florida, the Court would have ZERO credibility. We are talking full blown constitutional crisis folks. Roberts knows the court needs to be seen as something less than the GOP arm, FAST.

There are a dozen theories floating around. Probably none of them are right but I doubt Roberts is part of a grand conspiracy. Like most people, he probably doesn't even LIKE Romney.

And Republicans can outspend us 10-1 this election, they are still going to lose ground. There is a point of diminishing returns on ever more massive amounts of money being spent on a campaign.

10. The point of mentioning NPR saying the same thing a few minutes after the decision obv.

wasn't to say that it "must be true" only that it was a common thread of contention.

But, since you said it with sarcasm, then "it must be an intelligent position".

And I specifically said "minus the fortune telling" of predicting any future movements or positions. Just that NPR posited that Roberts voted pro to keep the Supreme Court from seeming partisan.

Maybe I was unclear.

.... but getting Romney in the white house is not a slam dunk at all IMHO.

Obama has many challenges, but he will DESTROY Romney in any live debates, I am certain of that.

Justice Roberts was concerned for his Legacy, which was quickly being written with him playing the role of a political hack. What he has to come to understand is that one decision does not a legacy make.
