but I submit this t-shirt is the result of the psychology of sports. Competitive sports prepare young minds for war and, by the time they are grown up, the line between sports and war is blurred. It teaches people there are supposed to be winners and losers in life instead of people working for the mutual benefit of each other. I don't think it's an accident more ex-sports stars who get into politics are republican. They think competative sports are a blueprint for life and politics. Dumb. There's a reason early football players were first viewed as dumb. But through decades of programming we've been trained to see these knuckleheads who would voluntarily allow themselves to get knocked around on a field as heros and leaders. The only thing I think competative sports prepares one for is how to make an opponent lose. And when you enter politics with that kind of teaching, no compromise, making the other guy lose tactics becomes your solution for everything and I think that's what we're seeing with the current republican party. They can't separate sports philosophy from political philosophy.

...the UK (including Canada and Australia), Belgium, Norway, Greece, Russia/the Soviet Union... It's not like we won those wars all by ourselves. The ignorance and stupidity of these people is mind-boggling.

These goddamned idiots treat war like it's some fucking sports competition. One would think that the veterans among them would be offended by this mentality, rather than partaking in it.

we helped them win their wars. The U.S. was a generally neutral party and saved the asses of the folks who were losing badly.

The main difference between those wars and out more recent one, is that we didn't become parties to the conflict until we were actually attacked (though one could argue we we chose diplomatic/economic sides far earlier).

My point is that we didn't win those wars by ourselves. Yeah, our entrance into WWI turned the tables, but that's not completely the case for WWII. Would we have been able to defeat the Axis powers had not the Soviets sacrificed 8.8 to 10.7 MILLION soldiers in order to weaken them first? Maybe. But, to say WE "saved their asses" in WWII is only partially true. Those 9 million or more dead Soviet troops would certainly tell you otherwise, if they could.
