According to a WhoWhatWhy exposé, published Thursday on AlterNet, the FBI declined to inform the U.S. public about ties between Trump and the Russian government for fear of exposing informants and “[jeopardizing] a long-running, ultra-sensitive operation targeting mobsters tied to Russian President Vladimir Putin — and to Trump.”

A two month-long investigation by the publication revealed that FBI agents likely feared exposing an ongoing operation against “an organized crime network headquartered in the former Soviet Union.” This Russian mob “is one of the Bureau’s top priorities,” spans several decades, and is intricately linked with associates of Trump and businesses the president owns.

As the report notes, federal officials were intent on protecting an FBI source—a convicted criminal with deep links to the organized crime network—upon whom the bureau came to rely for information. Some federal officials “were so involved in protecting this source” they later became a part of his personal defense counsel; upon his conviction government attorneys urged for “extreme leniency” toward this man.

The article further reveals that among the many details Comey was unable to discuss during his Mar. 20 testimony to Congress was the fact that “for more than three decades the FBI has had Trump Tower in its sights,” monitoring its occupants’ deep ties to organized crime networks. According to the report, one former Trump Organization adviser, Felix Sater, fits the bill for the FBI’s source into the Russia-based crime ring.

1. At best it would have been A factor. The huge one

was keeping government, and the ability to take power away from the very wealthy, safely in the hands of conservatives and away from Democrats.

Hard-core ideologues are running the right these days, and for them Democrats replaced the Russia of Cold War days as their big enemy a long time.

Note that this is only one of many recent media offerings trying to recast Comey's actions. No surprise at all--he's not only very powerful in himself, but many extremely powerful people owe him big time for helping throw the elections of 2016 to the right.

What a fine, honorable FBI director Comey is, and how fortunate we are to have him. We should give him a medal instead of sending him to prison.

14. That's exactly what has me worried - that after much drama, the FBI will end up concluding

Trump himself is innocent, if not most of his minions. That the long, drawn-out investigation was all just a show for the illusion of thoroughness.

But, then I realize, as the days go by, and more and more is revealed, that there's just too much there and it was seen by too many other people to get away with saying it was all a big mistake. No: "we looked all through this don't you see and trust us; if there was anything there we would have found it".

survives while others around him fall.

I am concerned, though, at the receptive response some are giving these articles whitewashing COMEY. He did the nation as a whole tremendous harm in the process of kicking the election away from Democrats. Even those with a problem with Hillary should not swallowing these articles trying to sucker people about HIS crimes. Comey's kick was square in their teeth also. He belongs in prison.

7. If this was actually the case then there would have been thousands of home grown criminals in....

our own banking and financial centers would already behind bars. Knowing a guy like Hover once orchestrated this organization would you put that much trust them to actually be doing the honest thing?

8. Not sure I believe this as Comey seemingly had no control over the FBI cabal that wants to

stop HRC! You can't have it both ways - let's not compromise an ongoing investigation that could have prevented a dRump presidency but let's go public with an investigation that led to nothing and prevented the other or at the very least impacted support for the other candidate. The FBI had better have the goods on DRump and his minions because his impact on the election has proved devastating to all causes liberal not to mention the fact that this whole mess leads to the appointment of a Supreme Court Justice that will tip the scales of justice to the right for decades to come.

Maybe one of you with the background knowledge can help me out. 30 years??? Really? Is this normal? An investigation that's still ongoing after 30 fucking years? Are they waiting for the suspects to just die off? I hope to hell they get all these bastards on treason, and they all end up in jail, but just what is our intelligence community waiting for?
