Why aren't we putting a public option plan on Trump's desk ?

This will immunize us from not having a plan to fix/improve/fine tune the Affordable Care Act.

On edit- As if it wasn't obvious of course I understand how a bill becomes law. My point is Trump is suggesting we don't have a plan/plans to fix/improve/fine tune the Affordable Care Act when we do.

Why not go Full Monty on him with healthcare? Since neither idea will have any chance of adoption, why not go all the way?

A lot of people are happy with their private issue insurance, whether they purchase it themselves or it's provided by their employers. If we take it away we are holding the hot potato of taking away people's current health care plan, even if it's for the good. By providing a public option folks have a choice; if you like your current insurance you can keep it.

4. Do you not understand how bills get to the president's desk?

They have to get out of committee, then the Speaker Ryan has to allow a vote on the floor. The then bill has to also pass in the Senate, which can add any number of amendments. Then there has to be a reconciliation between the two versions. Then and only then does it get to he president's desk.

Bernie Sanders has said he will introduce a single-payer bill in the senate, but it will be DOA, because the Republicans will never let it get to the floor for a vote.

Before we do anything, we first have to start winning elections! When and only when we take back the House can we even think about getting single-payer legislation passed.

......... A broad national consensus is developing that health care is indeed a right. This is historically new. And it carries immense implications for the future. It suggests we may be heading inexorably to a government-run, single-payer system. It’s what Barack Obama once admitted he would have preferred but didn’t think the country was ready for. It may be ready now.
