While Hillary spent $140 million on tv spots, Trump campaign pumped its money into Facebook

The Secret Agenda of a Facebook Quiz

While Hillary Clinton spent more than $140 million on television spots, old-media experts scoffed at Trump’s lack of old-media ad buys. Instead, his campaign pumped its money into digital, especially Facebook. One day in August, it flooded the social network with 100,000 ad variations, so-called A/B testing on a biblical scale, surely more ads than could easily be vetted by human eyes for compliance with Facebook’s “community standards.”

Perhaps out of necessity, the Trump team was embracing a new-media lesson: It didn’t have to build everything from scratch. Mark Zuckerberg and others had already built the infrastructure the campaign needed to reach voters directly. When “Trump TV” went live on Facebook before and after the second debate it raked in $9 million in donations in 120 minutes.

Mostly just stock footage of happy Americans and Trump saying some nonsensical neo-patriotic bullshit. I also saw attack ads after the Comey thing about Clinton "baggage" that had cartoons of Hillary, Anthony Weiner, and Bill Clinton groping Huma. Fucked up stuff.

They let people think they were reading real news stories. However there was one big difference.
They weren't news stories, they were paid advertising, all anti-Hillary lies.

The ads were on Facebook and Yahoo all the time. People say they were on DU also but I wasn't on here last year.
I believe they were everywhere.

What distresses me is that really stupid people not only believed them but forwarded them to their friends.
It was insane what was going on last year. Nobody knew it was Russians placing the ads, but Facebook must have known.
They sure collected a lot of ad money, and they never let on that it was all fake.

How many sites do you go to that advertise a "shocking" cure for diabetes, that looks like a really scary fruit? How many times do you see a Facebook ad about a Harvard engineer that got robbed and invented some super duper alarm system? Does Harvard have an engineering school? Fake 24x7. Zuckerberg is making real money from fake everything.

They are trying to upgrade it. I suspect it mostly caters to legacies who want to be Harvard men and women but are also interested in engineering. Possibly some of the poorer and middle class students that take advantage of Harvard's need based financial aid that also want to take engineering.

It is would not be the first choice for someone looking to go on in graduate study. The best state schools are better.

some time around then, I believe.

They had a panel that was going to review a lot of the "fake" news stories out there and allow or disallow them. However, the RWers made a HUGE fuss about it because the poor little snowflakes felt they would be unfairly targeted/singled out. So, FB dissolved the panel and let the shit show stay in place.

Too many voters, turned off by the stench of poop, paradoxically voted for its source.

Also, too many voters hate women.

F#ck this baloney backstory, it didn't happen. The behavior of the recounted states (WI, MI and PA) made that perfectly clear, and that's not counting FLA.

Back in the Obama elections, the single biggest source of millenial news was The Daily Show. Then Jon retired. SNL, Samantha Bee and Trevor Noah combined could not fill the gap.
