Just saw "Beauty and the Beast" - I'd forgotten about the "controversy"

Really really well done movie on a grand scale. Saw it at a dinner bistro place.
For the amount of CGI that had to be used it didn't show. My family said the wolves looked a little too CGI but I didn't notice it. Emma Watson was a fantastic choice for "Belle". It stayed very true to the original animation with one small bit at the end changed (I'm told).

Two things I'd forgotten until the movie started.
1. It's a musical. Of course it is but it didn't hit me until Belle starts singing at the beginning of the movie. "Oh God it's a musical" I thought. My wife said she could FEEL my angst when I thought it.
2. The "controversy" about the gay men. There were actually two *winks* in it. The one that got all the attention was so quick I didn't even see who the second actor was. Literally 2 seconds of screen time.

Highly recommend it and musicals are not my thing at all. I'm just born that way I guess.

She says the 'controversy' is no controversy at all; says the scene is much ado about nothing.

The whole hubbub is just the religious fanatics frantically searching for the spotlight...

Ballroom dancing with about 50 (?) people in it.

Kids don't notice that stuff anyway. It was like the innuendos they put in animation for the adults to share a joke.

The other is more of an ongoing joke, which I considered to be a cheap shot.

Unmentioned anywhere that I have seen is how interracial it is. Maybe that is now considered SOP in children's movies? I thought that it was very positive, but it is invisible to kids. A lot of little girls in princess dresses seeing it 2 or 3 times, but I suspect that Boss Baby crushed it this weekend. Go Alec!!!

The drag joke was more noticeable.

The diverse cast was good to see in my mind.

The two BIG STARS who we didn't see until the end were a surprise to me. There were noises of surprise made when spew saw who Mrs. Potts was. I'm usually really good at voices but I put that on hold because I knew I'd just be torturing myself the whole movie. The actor who played the candlestick even in real life confounded me (the wig threw me off), I thought it was Kenneth Branagh for a minute but then I got it.

But let's be real, until these past couple centuries marrying out of love was abnormal, hence most loves were all basically Stockholm syndrome. Get married, your parents get a goat, and it's your job to try and fall for the thrice your age dirtfarming spouse that had an excess of goats.

Put in a gay moment into my favorite Disney Bestiality musical???

Hopefully, I've offended everyone at some level with that. I'm sick and feeling surly.

notice anything about gay men, but did note the ending was slightly different then when we saw it performed on stage.

Took our 7 year old to go see it. We loved it. The music is lovely, the scenery is well done, Kevin Kline, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellen, Emma Watson...all favorites of mine. I must have missed the controversy - is it about the split second where LeFou dances with another guy? Gee whiz...HUGELY controversial..not.
