There's likely criminality associated with the individuals reportedly 'unmasked' by Obama officials

...either surrounding their activities, or directly related to their activities.

The obvious reason for these reports surfacing now is the Trump WH's hawking of them, highlighted by the Nunes stunt. But the most likely reason Trump is hyping these 'unmaskings' is an attempt by the WH to preempt some future accusations or prosecution of Trump associates or the president, himself.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Nunes could even be a subject of the intel reports, especially if they cover Trump transition activities that Nunes was involved in.
