Striking Univ. of Puerto Rico Students Feel Disrespected After Short Meeting with Governor

Gov. Ricardo Rosselló Nevares met with striking University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras students Thursday as the stoppage over proposed cuts to the university budget entered its third day.

The students were unhappy with the meeting, saying the governor showed them “disrespect” by giving them only 25 minutes of his time.

The students, who are still paralyzing the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Río Piedras Campus, called it “disrespect” that Rosselló would gather students from different parts of the island to grant them a meeting of only 25 minutes.

“It seems to us a lack of respect that he has summoned students from Mayagüez, Ponce, Cayey for a conversation of a mere 25 to 30 minutes,” said Juan Collazo, according to press reports.
