Puerto Rico Governor Signs Bill Protecting Victims' Rights

Gov. Ricardo Rosselló Nevares on Monday signed Law 18 for Domestic Violence Prevention and Intervention during the commemoration of Crime Victims’ Rights Week.

The law offers a support tool for those victims who want to report their aggressor.

The new statute amends Law 54 to allow the presence of legal intercessors and support people of the victim during the different stages of the testimony process against the aggressor.

Law 18 recognizes the work of legal intercessors and specialized professionals to assist survivors of domestic violence when confronting their aggressor in court and testifying against them.
