President Donald Trump reorganized his National Security Council on Wednesday, removing his chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, and downgrading the role of his Homeland Security Adviser, Tom Bossert, according to a person familiar with the decision and a regulatory filing.
National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster was given responsibility for setting the agenda for meetings of the NSC or the Homeland Security Council, and was authorized to delegate that authority to Bossert, at his discretion, according to the filing.
Under the move, the national intelligence director, Dan Coats, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, are again "regular attendees" of the NSCs principals committee.
Bannon, the former executive chairman of Breitbart News, was elevated to the National Security Councils principals committee at the beginning of Trumps presidency. The move drew criticism from some members of Congress and Washingtons foreign policy establishment.

And even Trump is smart enough to realize that he can't have a story of losing two National Security Advisors in less than 100 days.

(43,173 posts)Bannon's a cockroach and he's managed to create a Trump who has little use for existing administrative institutions.
He's not out of the picture. He's never out of the picture. None of these cretins are ever out of the picture. Let's not forget they "fired" Roger Stone.

(19,038 posts)Bannon literally wants WWIII. Now the guys that are still there are crazy and incompetent too, but nowhere near as apocalyptic as Bannon was.
The threat to the world by these maniacs is still dire, but has been reduced considerably by taking Bannon out of this role. A role for which he had zero qualifications for.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)But I hardly believe that would make a dime's worth of difference to President Trump. No, I'm thinking that Bannon slighted someone in the immediate family. Being a Class A jerk is more of a qualification than a drawback, but affronting the First Family is like blaspheming against the Holy Spirit.

Is NK going to get WWIII going? With trump in the WH, that is likely.

An official says Bannon was only on board to oversee now-ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's work to "deoperationalize" the National Security Council from the broad purview it had under Susan Rice.

(111,079 posts)He probably took himself off the Council since McMaster was unable to even remove the young punk that had come on board with General Flynn.
So, why would he remove himself from the NSC?
