Pence's Obamacare diplomacy fails to yield a deal
Conservatives and moderates say they heard two different things from the White House.
Conservatives in the House Freedom Caucus say Vice President Mike Pence, chief of staff Reince Priebus and budget director Mick Mulvaney sought to win their votes by offering a repeal of major Obamacare regulations during a Monday night meeting. But moderates who met with the same Trump officials hours before were told the changes wouldnt be as far-reaching.
The discrepancy in what was or was not promised became increasingly apparent throughout the day Tuesday, according to multiple sources across the spectrum of the House Republican Conference.
A late-night huddle with Pence and the leaders of all the GOP caucuses in the basement of the Capitol failed to clarify the issue, leaving Hill insiders speculating whether the White House offered two different potential deals or lawmakers selectively heard what they wanted.

(82,849 posts)The return of denials of coverage for pre-existing conditions that the ultra-right nitwits insist on turned out to be a deal-breaker for the far-right nitwits. Who could have guessed? Seems that all those angry voters at the town hall meetings might have had an effect after all.

(17,984 posts)Is that there are two groups in the GOP who are so intransigent that, even with the majority in congress, they are unable to make good on one of their biggest campaign promises. It's fun to watch the GOP flounder away.
