Roberto Beristain, an undocumented immigrant whose American wife voted for Donald Trump last year, has been deported to Mexico.
Beristain, who was a resident of Granger, Ind., and owner of the popular Eddies Steak Shed restaurant, was deported despite pleas from both his family and from local government officials, who lauded him as a model citizen who never broke any laws.
Even though Beristain came to the United States illegally in 1998, he later obtained documentation to legally work in the country while regularly checking in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Beristains wife, Helen, last month told Indiana Public Media that she voted for Trump in November because she supported his policies on deporting undocumented immigrants. However, she tells IPM that she never expected her own husband to be caught up in a deportation wave.

(6,032 posts)I don't feel sorry for her.
And I am sure he never thought Trump meant him when he said get them out because he isn't a "bad hombre"

(18,837 posts)...his wife clearly didn't do her homework, and this was as big of a smack in the face as the two of them could have received.
But it is a crystal clear illustration of the price tag that came with a vote for Trump. I am assuming that if he makes it to 2020, she won't vote for him again.

(18,837 posts)I meant "tough" from the point of her reaping the rewards of her own ignorance. Maybe it's not tough, maybe what she needs is to soak it all in and get smarter.

I simply have to repeat that this is almost 1:1 the "Leopards Eating People's Faces Party" quote.

(26,844 posts)She's against illegal immigrants....so she married one?
(Side question, I thought getting married would protect the guy?)
Then, she ON PURPOSE votes for a guy promising to get rid of ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, but somehow, she doesn't think that refers to the illegal immigrant she lives with?
This woman may be the dumbest woman on the planet.
I feel sorry for Roberto: his poor life choice (which anyone can make while in love) has caused him to lose his business and his whole life here.
