10,000 Conservative Ranchers Just Came Out Against Trumps Wall
By Benjamin Locke - April 3, 2017
The Texas Wildlife Association (TWA), representing about 10,000 members, who manage 40 million acres of ranches and hunting leases, says they support efforts to stop illegal immigration but the Trump plan makes no sense as presented.
We just see so many problems, TWA Chief Executive David Yeates told the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.
Those include years of legal battles over the use of eminent domain to take ownership of the privately held land; interrupting access to water from the Rio Grande River for landowners, their livestock, and wildlife including black bears, mountain lions, deer, bighorn sheep; destroying the scenic beauty of nature in many places; and doing other damage to the environment. ................

(2,108 posts)While I'm empathetic to these landowners plights...you had to think positioning your house in Mexico would come back to haunt you at some point...

(64,852 posts)I saw the article yesterday, but i got the impression she has riverfront property and the plan is build the fence a certain distance from the river. So, she would still be in Texas but the fence would be north of her house.
Pretty sure i got that right.
BarbaRosa
(2,684 posts)Rather than follow every nook and bend in the river the fence will follow a straight line. So her property is an peninsula in nowhere land, Mexico across the river and USA on the other side of the fence.
ProfessorGAC
(64,852 posts)Yeah, that's what was said. I didn't remember the exact detail.
Since the fence estimate is alreay $250 per inch, can you imagine the cost of if they did follow every nook and bend? It would double.

(64,852 posts). . .it was down the middle of the river? The current proposal is already $250 an inch.

(6,551 posts)No sympathy or empathy. They helped put in charge of this country, an unstable, immoral con man. They're reaping what they've sown.

(27,794 posts)Every day is like a living nightmare.
Which makes me even less empathetic with these guys. They're not like many Trump voters who are jobless in dying towns. They were and are desperate. I understand how desperation can make people vote for a convincing con man who promises them exactly what they most need, even when they have reservations about him.
But the ranchers? No.

.............."If you take away access to the Rio Grande, added Yates, you take away the water for 50,000 acres of irrigated farmland, not to mention the drinking water for cattle and migratory path for wildlife.
The group is also offended by what they see as the stupidity of the plans for Trumps wall along the Mexican border. For instance, the Big Ben National Park, which has over 801,000 acres, represents about 1,000 miles of the Southern border, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. It is sparsely populated and is the home of hundreds of specials of birds, reptiles, and animals, many protected by law..........................
