Our Democracy is pretty much dead

From here on out the Repugnants are just gonna cheat their way through everything and do whatever they want because they know nobody has the backbone to stop them. They cheat Obama out of his rightful SCOTUS appointment, change the rules to appoint Trump's appointee, gerrymander everything, ignore the blatant Russia involvement and fake news that tarnished the recent election, and will NEVER vote to repeal the Electoral College because it was put in place to benefit the elites and suppress the majority.

Congratulations big corporations! You won. You have finally succeeded at eating the heart and soul out of the the USA, and you have destroyed any remaining integrity this nation had. I hope the profits are worth it ;/

-We have an illegitimate leader who lost the popular vote by a large margin and is sitting on mid 30's approval ratings after only a few months in office. He doesn't seem to care so long as he can keep golfing and enriching his family.
-We have a government full of Russian puppets, religious fundies, and science deniers.
-We have a new SCOTUS member who thought a truck driver should freeze to death rather than abandon his broken down truck.
-Expect more gerrymandering and vote suppression from the Repugnants in the future. They need to ensure their continued power somehow.
-We have roughly 30-40% of our population in a state of such stupidity and ignorance that they believe fake news garbage about pedophile pizza rings, and will vote for any moron who says catch phrases like MAGA!
-We have one of the worst healthcare systems in the world where we pay 2.5X what most other developed countries do, and have rampant price gouging by big pharma and the healthcare industry in general.
-I could keep going and write a few pages on why this country sucks now, but what's the point?

2. Gorsuch appointment is now a permanent control of our government by rethugs.

The 5 will rule on taking power from the people and giving to the rich. And the stupid brainwashed cretins are to blame. I personally will never forgive anyone who voted for chump.

3. Pretty much.

Restoring integrity would probably require some fairly major updates to modernize and improve upon the stuff that's a couple hundred years old. Back then there weren't any smartphones or 30-round magazines or multibillionaires trying to take power and use it for their own private benefit. Of course the Gravediggers of Putin (GOP) aren't interested in restoring true democracy when they're the prime movers and beneficiaries of its corruption.

Is Bannon's idea of "deconstruction of the administrative state" just code for replacing democracy with unregulated corporate rule?

5. Repealing citizens united and the EC are mandatory if we ever want to truly fix things

Seems a little daunting at times.

8. I agree with the OP

I'm at my wit's end for how things get better.

We're gerrymandered to death, the media covers the wrong stories constantly, and now we have a bunch of Russian stooges serving in important positions.

The polls were the toughest thing to accept. There really were a bunch of Trump supporters not telling the truth, or they were not called because they never participated before.

Election night was a horror show. I was in a gay bar (not gay, but don't care where I am) and as the results came in , I couldn't see any chance of victory. My friends around me were more positive, but I knew the calculations of the electoral college and we were doomed.

Now we have a complete buffoon in office and horrible people in cabinet positions. This is depressing as hell.

I left that bar very early that night. Too many bad signs. Too many states lost that should have been won. And now we're stuck with all this drama and bad governing. Never seen it so bad.

I won't, but if you feel everything is hopeless, why bother?

12. Just because you know the train is going off a cliff doesn't mean you can't TRY to apply the brakes

Right now the problem is convincing the public as a whole that the train is only a few years away from that cliff. If we don't make major progress at taking the country back in the next few years it's gonna be all over.

18. It's Only Dead If We Declare It Dead

We are the Democracy and We are the Resistance. Or not. We either play dead or we push back.

The choice is ours, the American public.

I was part of the January Washington Woman's March. Trust me, we're not dead. Not by a long shot.

That's the good news. The bad news? This is going to be a long slog.

But we ain't dead yet.
