President Trump, ostensibly in response to the use of chemical weapons on Syrian civilians by the president of Syria, fired several dozen rockets into Syria yesterday. In 2013, President Obama was considering a military response to the same situation of use of chemical weapons on civilians by President Assad. At that time, you co-signed the letter written by Rep. Scott Rigell of Virginia insisting that President Obama seek congressional approval of any use of the military against Syria.

Is that still your position today? If not, why not? If so, please let me and the rest of your constituents know what you plan to do to demonstrate your deep respect for the Constitution, rally your congressional colleagues to that position, and hold the administration accountable for its actions.
I'll let you know if I receive any response.

Portland, Ore. -- Congressman Earl Blumenauer released the following statement on U.S. airstrikes in Syria:
"While it is clear that Assads use of chemical weapons is reprehensible, the missile attack on Syria tonight is disturbing. Besides the fact that Congress was not consulted, this was a complete reversal of Trumps previous positions. This turning on a dime makes it hard to believe he has thought this out and has a sense of where this all leads.
"If Trump's concern for the Syrian people is real, he should start by allowing refugees back in the country, fully funding humanitarian assistance, working on a comprehensive strategy to provide stability in that region, and obtaining a new and current Authorization for Use of Military Force from Congress."

(28,833 posts)I keep wondering if this was a setup.
Two days before Assad's strike, 45 said that Assad and Syria
should be left alone.
Then an emboldened Assad makes the chemical attack.
Now 45 unilaterally stikes a Syrian airbase informing Russia
ahead of time but no Amerians or Congress, and he strikes
a base in such a way that it does little real damage to Russia
or Assad.
Sorry if I'm feeling a bit CT right now, but ...
