(58,785 posts)business services." I.e., they are professional, technical, management, administrative jobs AND are in service, not manufacturing, sectors.
The various rather dramatic market responses to the hard-core, corporation-friendly Republican sweep in this election cannot be predominantly ascribed, as in more normal transitions, to the previous administration. Business saw last fall's election as promising extensive deregulation, including non-enforcement and elimination of labor and environmental protection laws, and restructuring of the tax code to their advantage. And, generally speaking, business plans have been altered accordingly.
NY Times:
Sentiment surveys moved sharply higher after the election on expectations of pro-business policies and tax reform, she added. So far, that hasnt happened, and the big question is whether confidence can remain as strong. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/07/business/economy/job-creation-unemployment-trump.html?_r=0

The final jobs report for 2016 shows that the U.S. economy has added just over 2 million jobs last year. The Labor Department reported on Friday morning that the U.S. economy added 156,000 jobs in December, while the unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 4.7 percent. The numbers slightly missed expectations: Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal were expecting 183,000 jobs to be added.
Nevertheless, the December jobs report concludes a year of steady economic growth: For most of the year, the unemployment rate has been hovering just under 5 percent, the lowest levels since 2007. Although the pace of employment growth in 2016 slowed compared to 2014 and 2015the height of the economic recoverylast years numbers put outgoing President Barack Obama ahead of George W. Bush (but behind Bill Clinton) when it comes to job creation.

(15,192 posts)But never mentioned that it had increased 10% in January
Here's my post on that.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1014&pid=1746536
IMHO - This Marketwatch "prick" knows exactly what the fuck he is doing.
The actual story is that the trade deficit soared 9% in January, and is now back to where it was in December.
Now, if this "prick" (my term for journalists who serve as propagandist for the ReTrumplicans" wanted to write an "accurate" headline, it would be "Trade Deficit returns to December levels".
Instead, he puts this Pro-Trump "blinking light" headline out there. "Trade Deficit Drops 10% in February"
the "prick" knows that as soon as he writes that bogus (technically true, but ultimately Bullshit) headline, it will be shared by a thousand rightwing echo chamber sites and then tweeted by "Donnie Short-Fingers".
Our so-called "journalists" need to be reminded that scores of propagandists were hung after WWII.

(5,808 posts)This one ought to be a beaut. So many topics to address and spin. Honestly, I want to see the creativity they use to explain how the jobs guy failed yet again to create so many jobs it will make our heads spin. And then there is the massively SUCCESSFUL air strikes in Syria that took out no planes, no personnel, no equipment that matters and left the runway intact. Oh, and spent $100 million ....Poof! Let us hope the media people confront Spicey and watch his head explode at the temerity of these noobs in the press! TV worth watching.....

(68,352 posts)People here have been really hurt by the loss of good paying jobs...if you have not had it happen to you...you are lucky. I am starting to see other sorts of jobs go too ...for example payroll/accounting is now in Jamaica. There are racists here and some voted for Trump but many were just desperate for jobs...we better fix this...because great countries don't sell shit to each other, they make stuff...and we are losing green energy jobs that should be here...if we can come up with a realistic manufacturing policy that stops the enriching of the few over the impoverishment of the many...Democrats will never lose in the rust belt and I don't mean GS retraining either. We absolutely need to make things here...the good jobs will follow the manufacturing jobs out of this country if we don't put a stop to it.

(12,118 posts)Desperate, but somehow forgot that Obama saved the auto industry and many jobs? Desperate but keep voting in asshole rebukes in state government year after year? Desperate but ignore new energy technology and push for removing regulations? Desperate but lease land for fracking while state becomes number one in cancer? Desperate but ok with public schools crumbling while unqualified buybull thumpers get vouchers to homeschool? I don't think looking realistically at people who continually shoot themselves in the foot is unfair.

(12,118 posts)The day after burying my mom. At Akron North high. After canvassing most days after helping her when she was dying. Who calls and canvassed every election. Went out 2006, 2010 and 2014. Knocked over 1000 doors 2008 and over 5200 in 2012 for Obama. Got tired of being told my marriage wasn't equal to straight peoples'. We moved to a full equality blue state in July, had full hip replacement in September, so could only phone bank- for Ohio till last week before election, then I came up to be neighborhood canvass captain.

In the past election, I worked hard for Hillary and actually phone banked from the hospital where I spent five days in September and towards me...none of my posts (and I reviewed them) deserved such a response.

(12,118 posts)I am disgusted with what the place I was born has become. I spent most of my life working (and volunteering) to make it a better place. From planting trees as a Girl Scout to working as a firefighter paramedic. I'm disgusted driving southeast thru the state towards Pittsburg seeing many confederate flags, the hateful hand made anti-Hillary and Obama signs. Disgusted how LGBT people are considered second class citizens at best- hate law passed in 2004. How people reject science, facts and the needs of their neighbors and often themselves in the name of bigotry and lies.

You just know this is a juiced report to save Trump's fat ass. Lets see,Radio Shack how many Thousand,Lowe's how many thousand,JC Penny how many thousand,Sears/Kmart how manky thousands,
Wall Street Banks how many thousands. Just the tip of the Collapse that is now happening. People are not spending on the extra's.

(22,651 posts)100+ times a month to keep up with 'job' creation. Should be about 200,000 'new' jobs a month, half that isn't a good trend at all.
Looks like trump and his Republicans are failing to keep up with the Obama Admins work. You're SLACKING Republicans, can't even finish the damn TRANSITION OR get rid of the Russian collusion people
should be about 200,000 a month

(28,270 posts)The republican party is made up of disaster capitalists, self hating idiots and theocratic religious fanatics.
But the disaster capitalists pull all the strings, they will loot this economy that President Obama and the democratic party build from the ashes of the Bush depression.
Count on that.

(3,706 posts)last months positive jobs number, duplicated many many times during the Obama presidency, was due to Trumps pure genius. This month's anemic report is leftover from the disastrous Obama presidency.
The sad part is that the trumpanzees will actually believe that.
