How the tune changes

Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) issued the following statement on the recent chemical weapons attack in Syria.

“The chemical weapons attack that occurred Tuesday in northwestern Syria is a shocking atrocity. The attack was reportedly carried out using the potent nerve gas, sarin, killing at least 70 civilians, including children.

"This barbaric behavior must end. The Syrian government has denied involvement, just as they did in a 2013 sarin gas attack that killed 1,300 people. Bashar al-Assad’s continued presence in Syria cannot be accepted as a political reality. A leader who allows the killing of innocent civilians is no leader at all. The removal of President al-Assad must be considered as part of any solution to this years-long civil war.”

Sounds good, just one problem. Remember that other thing he said back in 2013? (Cue wavy line flashback effect)

A Texas Republican lawmaker said the evidence he saw Sunday at a classified briefing showing the use of chemical weapons by Syria's government was thin.

"Yes, I saw the classified documents yesterday. They were pretty thin," Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) said.

The Obama administration says its evidence leads it to conclude Assad's government used chemical weapons against its opponents in the Damascus suburbs. Obama has asked Congress to authorize a military strike because of the use of chemical weapons.

Burgess said he believed a vote on authorization would fail if it were taken today. He said it was clear that both parties are divided on the issue at Sunday's classified briefing.

The blood of Syrian people is on his hands, but hey, he showed up Obama, and that's what matters, right?
